New here & need some help

We just got a 07 3s-GT in silver. Must say that the car is very nice to look at and has some great features (love the stock HID's). It handles well enough but is a little on the slow side. Overall, we're very pleased with this purchase and we got a pretty good deal for it.

On to my questions. I would like to maintain this car myself but after some research on the 'net and by the naked eye, this car seems to have a cover for everything.

1. Are there front and rear centered points that you can use a single jack to lift up so you can simply slide jackstands on either side simultaneously? If so, where would they be? If not, any recommendations on how to accomplish this?

2. I've read a couple of write-ups on the oil change process. It seems to more of a pain due to the cover, but the oil filter is what I had questions about. Since there's actually a drain bolt for it, does that mean you cannot use 3rd party filters (Mobil 1, K&N, Purolator, etc, etc)?
I think I've found the answer to this question by visiting the websites for various manufacturers.

I think these are the only 2 Q's for now. If I think of any more, I'll just edit this post.
Your help is highly appreciated.

Try searching google for mazdaspeed jack points, or something like that. That's how I found it when I did my CAI install. The jack points are shown in the shop manual for the car, but not in the owner's manual. The answer to your question is yes, there are jack points. The front point is the center of the front cross member, which is right behind the engine. The rear point is the center of the rear cross member. They reccomend driving the car up on boards first to provide enough clearance, and you should use a piece of wood in between the jack and the rear point.

If you do the search, there's a post on one of the forums with scans of the pages from the shop manual if you can't locate the cross members.

If you're planning on doing a lot of maintenance work yourself, wouldn't hurt to buy the shop manual

Thanks for the starting reference points. With your guidance, I should be able to crawl under and locate them. If not, I'll Google.
I def plan on buying the shop manual. Who makes it, Helms, Haynes??
Again, thanks for your help.
