I'd probably start with something the 3 already does well, like handling. Some sticky tires, maybe a drop and a set of swaybars...

JBR has a great rep.

I would start off by de-badeging the car and removing the side bumpers on the doors. This is a cheap mod/free if you have a hot day or even a hair dryer and just an old credit card and they will come off. Then use goo-off to get the rest of the dirt and left overs. The badges on the trunk though are a bit different as only the "3" is held on by glue and the "mazda" logo and badge are held into the trunk by snaps. Thats the first mod I did to mine and it looks clean and sharp, plus it's cheap.

I painted mt badges front and back and the crome peace on front over the grill, im also putting mesh where the fog lights covers are on the front bumper, and i painted my tow hock and put into the front. Oh and i painted the senter consold in the car.It didnt cost that much for all all the paint and very easy to do.

Lots of little things you can do that have already been suggested.
Plasti dip your emblems or de-badge. I think blue or red would look great on a black car but up to you.
If your not in the market for new wheels you could dip yours, and get some colored tuner lugs.
You can add eyebrows to your headlights, makes her look meaner, a spoiler lip to add a little extra to the factory spoiler.
Tint your taillights or overlays, can also do this to your fog lights.
Rally mud flaps.
Thats just a few things to start off with...
