Updated results next month. And we hope to have the 2010 in the next update after that, in November.

Help us provide the best possible information for your model year:

Updated results will be posted to the site tomorrow. 40 2010s now signed up, so we'll likely have a result for it with the November update. Additional participants always helpful.

channelv is an unknown quantity at this point
I have an 05 with 75k miles I bought used. No probs so far. Should I go ahead and enter the poll even though I've owned it 2 months with no probs?

I've heard on several occasions that the Speed3 when driving hard will fail due to...i believe it was the cams? But I believe those are the people to track day it a lot.

We have updated results for the Mazda3 to include owner experiences through June 2009. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2008.5-2009: 70, about average, common problem with the audio system

2008: 55, about average, might have some 2008.5s with the troublesome audio system in this sample

2007: 29, better than average

2006: 32, better than average

2005: 55, about average

2004: 75, about average

Results now posted separately for the MS3. Slightly higher repair frequency for the 2007, about the same otherwise.

A big thanks to everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in August and November. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years.

Updated results again later this month.

We're going to start providing new stats for the odds of requiring no repairs and the odds of getting a lemon. These require larger sample sizes, so additional participants would be helpful.

For the details, and to sign up:

We have updated results for the Mazda3 to include owner experiences through September 30, 2009. Results are now posted separately for the MazdaSpeed3. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2008.5-

2009 Mazda3: 70, about average, common problem with the audio system

2008.5-

2009 MS3: 65, see note above

2008 Mazda3: 57, about average, might have some 2008.5s with the troublesome audio system in this sample

2008 MS3: 64, again see note above

2007 Mazda3: 19, better than average

2007 MS3: 82, about average

Sample sizes range from small to nearly adequate for the MS3, so these results are not as precise as those for the regular Mazda3. That said, only with the 2007 does the MS3 appear to require more repairs.

A big thanks, once again, to everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in February and May. With more participants, we could provide more precise information.

742 Mazda3 owners now signed up. A very good start, but more are needed to provide precise results for all model years for both the regular Mazda3 and the MS3.

Especially need more MS3s. Sign up as a Mazda3. Later you'll be asked to specify the powertrain.

Not yet signed up? Details here:

We have updated results for the Mazda3 to include owner experiences through December 31, 2009. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2010: 6, better than average

2008.5-2009: 58, about average, common problem with the audio system

2008: 46, about average, might have some 2008.5s with the troublesome audio system in this sample

2007: 22, better than average

2006: 40, better than average

2005: 44, better than average

2004: 73, about average

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

The percentage with no repairs is about 68 for the 2005, 73 for the 2006, 77 for the 2007, 75 for the 2008, and 76 for the 2009, while the percentage of lemons is about 4 for the 2005, 3 for the 2006, less than one for the 2007, 6 for the 2008, and 4 for the 2009. These stats require more data, so we don't yet have them for other model years.

Just enhanced the related repair history survey so that it can (optionally) be used as a personal car maintenance record.

As always, more participants would be helpful. Updated Car Reliability Survey results in May, with a preview for participants next month.

801 Mazda3 owners now signed up. A great start. The more owners participate, the better the information we can provide to everyone.

Especially need more MS3s, since we've been reporting separate results for them.

Other sources of car reliability information won't cover the more recent months until the summer or even fall of next year.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2010 Mazda3: 23, better than average

2010 MS3: 25, better than average, small sample size

2008.5-
2009 Mazda3: 34, better than average

2008.5-
2009 MS3: 51, about average, small sample size

2008 Mazda3: 40, better than average

2008 MS3: 65, about average

2007 Mazda3: 17, better than average

2007 MS3: 63, about average

2006: 46, better than average

2005: 28, better than average

2004: 69, about average

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

The percentage with no repairs is about 85 for the 2005, 69 for the 2006, 87 for the 2007, 77 for the 2008, 72 for the 2009, and 73 for the 2010, while the percentage of lemons is about 6 for the 2008.5-2009 and less than one for the other years.

Starting this month we have a new question to measure, as objectively as possible, the severity of a problem. Many people have been asking for reliability stats that weight problems by how severe they are, and once we have enough responses with the revised survey we'll start providing this.

Also, updated reliability stats this month.

As always, the more owners participate, the better the information we can provide to everyone.

We have updated results for the Mazda3 and MazdaSpeed3 to include owner experiences through September 30, 2010. Other sources of car reliability information won't cover the months since April until the summer or even fall of next year.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2010 Mazda3: 26, better than average

2010 MS3: 33, better than average

2008.5-
2009 Mazda3: 27, better than average

2008.5-
2009 MS3: 31, better than average

2008 Mazda3: 42, better than average

2008 MS3: 65, about average

2007 Mazda3: 25, better than average

2007 MS3: 48, better than average

2006: 34, better than average

2005: 22, better than average

2004: 77, about average

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

The percentage with no repairs is about 88 for the 2005, 79 for the 2006, 82 for the 2007, 68 for the 2008, 76 for the 2009, and 74 for the 2010, while the percentage of lemons is less than one for all years.

We don't have these stats for the MS3 yet because they require a larger sample size.
