Intermittent starter issues
Hello everyone,
I hope someone can help with this issue.
My 2006 Mazda 3s 2.3L manual starts when it wants. It all started a yr ago when it stopped turning over, thank heaven it's a manual and one can pop the clutch, unfortunately there isn't always a hill. I thought it was the starter so I bought a new one and replaced it, everything was fine for a month then it stopped turning over again. I returned the starter thinking it was a bum rebuilt, they gave me a new one but while there some mechanic guy in the store heard what I was saying and said it's wasn't the starter but some starter electronic module? I didn't think much of it until 5 months later when it stopped starting again. I had to make sure I was always up hill. This went on for a few weeks, then things were good for a number of months. Well it's back. A few days ago I read something on a forum that suggested the starter relay, so switched it with the heater one. That seemed to work for a couple days but not any longer. Side not both relays are fine and work, maybe it was coincidence. In the past I thought it was the clutch switch and bypassed that, but it's fine. For a couple of days in the morning (cool) it worked but after work (hot in the low 90s) I've had to pop the clutch. But in all honesty, it really doesn't seem to have a rhyme or reason, just sometimes it works and sometimes not, but does seem to come in extended intervals of working or not. Unfortunately now seems to be the not. HELP, any suggestions, thoughts???
Thanks everyone!
PS, battery is new, alternator has been checked, no clicking when trying to start, all electric works fine except to turn over, sometimes, Ahhhh........
Mechanic friend took another look, the small wire connector to the starter was faulty, at least so far, G_d willing everything will be fine for now on.
