I'm back now with a Mazda 3
Sold my 2000 Protege with 170K on the odometer. Now i bought a 2011 MZ3 and love it with one exception. Road noise. I'm pretty sure it is the tires. They are a cheap off brand. It got a noise sounds like an airplane on certain asphalt surfaces. Now i checked every passed thread and i can't find an answer with a real solution. Do better tires quiet things down? As far a sound deadening, what works and what doesn't. I had a thought about taking off the plastic wheel wells and dynamating or peel and sealing the inside of the plastic, not sure if that's the thing to do. Or is it the doors that do the best for it? don't know where to start or are good tires the real solution. thanks for any thoughts.

the tires are Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus. I can't tell how they handle in the rain, haven't experienced any yet, but the tires handle nicely on dry. I also applied rubberized roofing cement to the plastic wheel wheels and sound deadened the trunk and hood. Made a big difference, but the tires were the biggest gain in quietness. i'm very happy with the results.
