Has anyone changed their brake pads yet?
If so, have you noticed any change?

dust

I went to get my first service and Mazda told me the brake dust is normal. Even for the backs (even though my fronts are spotless). They refuse to do anything. Anyone change 'em yet? If so, any recommendations and cost??

I don't know if this helps but the front brakes on the 3 are ventilated while the back are not. I know nothing about braking but if that helps someone who does know then more power to you.

i get the dust on my back tires too. i know why though; when you break hard it causes the rear rims to get all black. when i drive normally (meaning; not speeding and breaking real hard) my back tired barely get dirty but when i dont they get real black.

Brake Pad Dust

The Brake Pads in the rear are a lower grade then the front disc brakes. Seeing as most of the stopping power is on the front wheels. Due to the lowered quality there is far more brake dust. With every pad if you spped and stop excessivley fast there is going to to be more brake dust, but the unusually high amount of dust from the rear brakes is due simply to the fact that mazda wanted to save money.

yeah but then mazda will void your warranty saying that the the new pads caused an imbalanced that somehow broke whatever you sent it to the shop for :P.

Ive had the problem with brake dust since my first week - my dealer said that it was normal - like they had heard of this already - drives me nuts - Im cleaning my rears every week - the fronts have what i would consider an acceptable amount of buildup but the rears are just nasty.

I've definitely noticed the brake dust issue but since I only have about 690 miles on my Mazda 3 I'm not ready to drop money on new pads. But, with that said, what kind of wheel cleaner are you guys using? Any thoughts on a cleaner that may help to "repel" brake dust better then another? I don't mind spending extra cash if it actually works... Thanks!

best, JP
