Question 2005 HB seat belt retractor questions -SOLVED

I can no longer pull out my seat belt. Over 3 days it gradually got worse...now nothing. It actually feel weird NOT wearing my seat belt.

1) does anyone know the actual OEM part number for the driver/front retractor?

2) Are passenger and driver rectrators interchangeable? If so, I'd like to do a swap while I wait for a new part.

3) looking on ebay and other part stores, which years are compatible with an 05?

Any advice or tips also appreciated.

Thanks, xjm

I'd take it to the dealer and see if they'll fix it for free. It IS a safety issue and seatbelts shouldn't do that!

If they say no or if the dealership isn't an option for you, any Mazda3 hatchback between 04 and 08 are identical. I'm not sure about the sedan or 2nd gen (2010 up) 3.

no go at dealer. they said seat belts are under 6/60 warranty for 2005s. Im still hoping i can just swap the passenger and driver until new part arrives as I rarely have a front passenger...

Talking Solved

SOLVED for now... After I removed the panel to access the retractor I found that when I moved the unit outward a few degrees (toward seat) it worked! When I pushed the unit to near vertical alignment (upright, toward pillar) it stuck.
