2004 Mazda 3 sedan poor heat

I live in Winnipeg, yes I know we have extremely low temps here (the other day it was -50!) . I've been putting up with really poor heat for years and it's getting tiring. The car's interior will not warm up while idling, only when moving and it takes at least 20 minutes of traveling to even get lukewarm heat, I'm freezing! The car's engine temp is going up normal, stays about halfway and is performing well, runs well no complaints there. Even starts dead cold sitting in extreme cold for 8 hours without block plugged. I can't plug in at work. Any suggestions? Thank you

Perhaps you have a bad heater core?
