2.0L Engine, wont turn over

tried to start my car this morning (2005 2.0L, standard, 45k, no known previous issues/repairs). the engine wont turn over, all i get is a clicking noise. the first time i tried, it was going at about 4 clicks/second. when i went back an hour later to hear the noise again, it was half as fast, and this time the digital odometer was pulsing on and off in beat with the click, and in the instant that the key moved back to the "run" position from the "start" position, the speedometer and tachometer (and possibly all the other guages, it was just for an instant so i couldnt see them all) spiked all the way up and then went dead again. when i tried to start the car again a second later, it was back up to the faster paced click without the pulsing screen or the spiking guages. i believe it to be the original battery (im the 3rd owner) and combined with the cold weather ive been having, it probably means i just need a new battery. but if someone has experienced a similar problem and came to a different solution, please let me know.

It's your battery. You can check your battery terminals for corrosion, but I think you'll still need a new battery. Go have it tested.
