Free tires...Will they fit?

Well a member of my local DSM board had a set of winter tires that are almost brand new that he wanted out of his garage. They came off his RX-8 which was traded in and he now has no use for them. Last winter I was driving my wifes then new mazda 3. The tires that were on the car when she bought it are absolutley horrid in bad weather condition, IE: snow. She has the stock rims, which I believe are 17x7's. These tires are 225/55's, will they fit on her stock rims? If not, what would be my best option. I dont think anyone makes 17 inch steel wheels so I would have to get el' cheap-o wheels just to mount the tires. Which is fine. My other concern is fitment. Will a 225 rub?

Thanks alot for the help. I am way out of my DSM realm here.

mazda3 rims should be 215's...225's are a little wide for that rim. there may be rubbing issues under heavy loads but I bet you'll be fine.

Well, I think we would still bebetter off looking for a cheap set of wheels. Rather than having to pay someone to mount and dismount the tires every season. Another question...She has the TPMS. What will happen if we get different rims without all that fancy gadgetry? Im cool if itll just throw a light.

it should just be a floating sensor that sits inside the new rim. Just MAKE SURE to have your tire place put it in the new rim...some places like to pocket them.

Well, We have decided that we're going to find some el cheapo rims. We would wind up paying an arm and a leg anyways to have tires mounted and balanced a couple times. I hear some of the DSM wheels will fit. Ill have to see what is availible.

25.1 is your overall diameter from stock. A 225/55/17 is 26.74 in overall diameter. In overall diameter you would be bumping up your tire size up 1.5". I would say dont do it I'd still take the free tires though

About your TPMS, you'll have a light pop up, but thats about it. I think the dealer can actually reset it/turn it off if you want.
