Question need advice on getting a helmet

well, after 2 autocrossing events where I had to use the nasty loaner helmets, I've decided to get my own helmet. Got a few questions though:

1. M95 or SA95 helmet? I keep debating whether or not I should get a helmet that I'll be able to use if I ever go road racing, any thoughts on this?

2. What brand/model helmets are good? I'm definitely getting a open-face helmet, any suggestions?

3. Where can I find a great price? Either from an online store or from my local area (DC metro) would be fine.

TIA

www.racerwholesale.com has good prices and a good selection.

Myself, i got about the cheapest SA2000 helmet you can find, the G-force GF-750. Open-face, comfy, and for 150 bucks, how can you go wrong?

Any of the big brands are good. Even the "worst" of the good brand helmets have gone through every one of the safety tests.
i was looking at the same helmet...comfy huh, good. how is the stictching and lining? I imagine the visor is removable? Did you get the black or white? and how's the finish?

i ask becasue there are no dealers here, so i can't go to a shop and check it out myself.

Also looking at thier 4pt harnesses, as the passive belts are not very good for butt to seat adhesion....

Is it the same model that Dale Earnhardt Sr. wore on that fateful day in Daytona last year?

And yeah, that GF-750 looks like a really good buy for the price. That throws the HJC CL-5 M95 I was looking at out of the door!

Too bad they only have black & white, I'll probably pick white so it doesn't get too hot in the summer

I have a Simpson open face helmet with a chin guard. It is SA2000 rated. Very good quality but expensive.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think as long as the helmet is certified to at least Snell M95 rating, it's ok.

or is that M90?

well I ordered the GF-750 in white last night, after I got confirmed a spot for the 4/21 autox event at FedEx Field. Jesse, How long did it take them to ship it to you after you ordered?

Next item to purchase: that 'Secrets of Solo Racing' book by Watts.

just received my GF-750 helmet a few minutes ago. Very nice looking helmet (I got white) and well made. Biggest thing I noticed is that it is LIGHT!!!.

It's a little tight around the ears right now, but I think after a while it'll be broken in very nicely.

thanks for pointing out this helmet for me Jesse

Now I shall continue reading Watt's Secret to Solo Racing while wearing my new helmet, oohmmmmmmmmmmmm

If you are only going to be autocrossing I say get a M helmet. They are lighter and cooler ( for the summer). I got my Bieffe helmet for $115 and purchased a smoked visor too for $20. It's a full face helmet and is nice

yeah if I was only gonna do autox then a M helmet would be fine, but since I am planning to do driving school in the future, figure I would just get a SA2000 for all driving situations
