300z huh- under 5k- looking at an NA- then depending on previous owner and how hard they rodded it- what kind of condition are you gonna get. Parts are spendy= really spendy for 300z's. No honda or Mitsu- under 5k. if you want RWD- find a 240sx. parts are cheaper, and alot easier to fix. That is my .02- completely up to you though.

when shopping for a car it's best to have things thought out as far as what you need it for and what you want to do with it.
For instance, say I'm going to buy a new car...
1. What type of car do I want? Sedan, Coupe? Convertible?
2. How will I mostly use the car? Daily Driving? All-out racing? show car
3. Do I plan on modding the car? Are parts available? Do the modded cars make the power I want to achieve?
4. How much can I spend? Will this include cars that need work?
5. How much will insurance cost me on this vehicle? How much will gas cost?
6. Do I want FWD, RWD or AWD?
Once you ask yourself these questions you can start qualifying cars that meet these answers. It's much smarter to do this than to buy the first thing you see that you can afford and find out later that it doesn't meet any of your needs.

damn.......
never really thought that far..
i was planning to gut out the car, taking out useless parts, weight, and try and make it show worthy..
as far as getting an insurance quote........ well, after a little over an hour wait on hold with "all state" i gave them up....
what im really looking for is a:
rear wheel drive
5 speed
2 door
possibly 2 seater
dont really care what color (just not purple, pink or them types)
condition is around average, fixable..
no severe body damage or frame damage
no severe rust accepted
will be used as daily/show/race
no body kits on it (and will refuse buying them, pointless toward Hp)
insurance under $120
model year from 1990-97
could be MR engine type (mid rear)
going to work on car for 2 yrs (at least, project car)
but alot of things could change
im planning to buy around september
thanks for your help

Miata- Idea is good, Older MR2, I still say 240- look good with stock body, and parts are damn cheap, and insurance isnt crazy on them yet on average. I have always had a soft spot for 240's- so I am a little biased.

Miata!!????
sorry to say, to me that car seems a little............for a guy to drive it
i dont think i could affoard it anyway
i've checked on 240's a while ago, almost got a feddish with them.
plus its soon becoming the new civic around here
MR2's are hard to find in rockford
my brother owns a 92' i believe and insurance is uper $100s a month with a beater

hmmm...I have allstate, emailed my agent and had an answer in a couple of hours. I was quoted a 2000 BMW 325i full coverage and my 2002 Nissan Frontier liability only at $85/mo....makes me feel old
I'm a good example of not jumping in. I have been looking since November 2005 and still haven't decided what I want.
I have narrowed it down:
Sporty Looking Sedan (not hatchback)
Around $10K (~$8K-$12K)
Under 75,000 miles
Looking mainly stock (don't get me into how comestic mods look bad after 5-10 years)
Daily driver or weekend driver - depends on the engine size I buy...with a 2 mile commute, it would not be wise to buy a V8 for a daily driver that would never get to operating temp
So, I've narrowed my choices down to the following: (for now, they seem to change every couple of weeks )

Trust me...a Miata is an EXCELLENT platform to work with.
I'm getting mine in 2 months...YAY for me.
Oh yeah...Kev built this car for less than $2k...just to let you know.
Read up...I was a little skeptical & ignorant as yourself a few years back about Miatas. Then I started to see the Mustang GT engines installed in them and I saw how the folks over at flyin' Miata were putting down some sick numbers...I quickly changed my tune. Never knock it, til you rock it bro. I have taken a ride in his car & I must say...it's like a go cart...an extremely fast go kart.

ehhhh... beyond its amazing lightness, speed, handeling, cheapness to mod, and all out costs
the body style just hasn't caught my eye
ill probable get smacked back in forth daily tryin to race against them
but (with out offense) it just doesn't seem manly to me

Yeha- I am split currently- I want a RWD coupe or convertible so kind of stuck between Miata, 240. However I am also currently looking at a Supra, and possibly an RX7. This would be for a fun drift drag project. Miata is really my first choice as they do have alot of potential and are more reliable even after modding... Plus hell its a convertible- hahaha
