Cool The joys of buying a MS3 in Houston

I rarely ever post, more of a lurker, but after trying to obtain and purchase a Black, Speed3 Sport here in Houston, TX, here are my findings:

Joe Myers Mazda: The worst of the bunch, they had the "most" Speed3's, but they wanted at "LEAST" $2k over MSRP.

Mazda of Clear Lake: Same as Joe Myers, they wanted $2k over MSRP, and after telling them, "yeah, that's not gonna work", the sales guy called me back telling me that since it was the end of the month (10/31), they would be "willing" to take a hit and just do $1k over.

Gillman Mazda: They told me that they just don't carry them. Ok.

Goodman Mazda: The guy I spoke with told me that they don't waste their inventory with the Sport Models, and that they only carry Grand Touring models. I told them that was fine, I'll just go elsewhere, so he asked why not the GT? I explained to him that I hate leather seats cause they don't provide enough grip to which he replied, "even porsches have leather son" Oh really?

Jeff Haas Mazda: The sales person said that they don't charge over MSRP (the only dealership to do this in town), but that all he had was a red sport model. I told him that wouldn't do, I needed Black Mica. He promised to get a black one. They never did.

And finally, the dealership where I found a Black Mica, Speed3 sport,

Gullo Mazda of Conroe
: Ugh. I don't know where to begin. I'll keep it short. The lady salesperson had told me over the phone that they had a black sport coming in from japan and that it would be there soon. It wasn't 100% what we wanted because it had the autodimming mirror, but it was a $200 option I was willing to overlook. They charged MSRP. A bunch of BS happened for over a week, but in the end, it came in, we got our blank check financed through a bank, and we took delivery of the vehicle yesterday. We were extremely pissed about the fact that the car had the front license plate drilled into the bumper after SPECIFICALLY telling her not to do so. She was more like, "if you don't want it, then you can go to another dealership and have them charge you $2k more for the car". She knew she had us, and there wasn't **** we could do about it. It was the only game in town, so I asked her to at least give us the front grille for dealer cost, and I would replace the grille myself. In the end, it was the best deal I could find, which was about an hour drive away.

My thoughts on the whole Speed3 purchase:

I hate dealerships. I hate salespersonnel that work in dealerships. I just want to buy the car for a fair price. That's it. No games.

It's like, you know you're gonna get raped at a dealership if you're looking for a certain specific model/color, and it doesn't help that it's a specialty car. So you clench your buttcheeks and try to find the dealership that will at least use lube before they put it in.

Questions about Houston-area Mazda dealers?

Damn, been around since 03 and only 10 posts. Start chatting more!

Yes, ALL dealerships suck. Dealerships make money by screwing people out of theirs. I hate them.

If you had asked to find a dealer PRIOR to the sale I could've set you up with mine which I know could've taken care of you personally LESS than MSRP (but you'd have about $500 in delivery fees).

If you think mazda dealers rip you off you should come to the porsche dealer sometime and watch them break it off in me. It's like a still shot from the Abu ghrab prison.

Thanks, I didn't even think to post anything about a hook up.

And yes, I've been on here for the past 4 years without saying much. I'm on many boards as I have many interests in many types of cars. Keith knows me from other boards as well.

Here the Mazda dealer is the Porsche dealer (also Audi).. so if I ever went to them I should prepare to make a naked pyramid?

that f-ing sucks about the license plate holes dude. I would have refused delivery of the car just for that, no f-in way would I deal with holes in the bumper.

are they are least in the black plastic part?

Welcome back to the site as well!

Thanks.

Yes, it's the part of the unpainted bumper. Just a removable grille, I believe. I'll post a pic perhaps later.

Hey!

I bought mine from gullo as well. though i think mine went a bit easier not having been looking for a speed. i had more 'options' but i chose gullo as the lesser of many evils. I started on the mazda usa site and sent out 'requests for quotes' to all mazda dealerships within 100 mi of 77377. I told them exactly what i wanted then told them what options i could do without and what options were an absolute must.

i got what turned out to be an automated response from the dealer in deerbrook, i called the guy back to see what he had to offer and he had no clue who i was. next...

i got an email from munday mazda saying that i was 'all over the board' on what options i wanted and that i should come in and talk about it with him. i replied to him that the reason i was doing it thru the net was because i didn't have time to waste going from dealer to dealer to 'talk about it' next...

Another email from jeff haas (thats the one on I-10?) saying that i should come in and talk to them. next...

Joe Myers was the first to reply with an actual quote, including a price, wich was about 2k over msrp (sound familiar? and this wasn't even a speed) but he couldn't get one with a moonroof (one of my must haves). next...

Gullo. I'm sure it was probably the same lady sales rep, as i dont recall seeing ANY others. she sent me a quote for the closest thing she could find on her lot, then gave me several examples of what she could pull from other dealers as far away as mississippi. needless to say i went to see her first, and thats where i ended up buying the car.

none of the other dealerships in that range even bothered to call or email a reply... oh well there loss.

my must haves:
07 model (to qualify for the end of model year financing)
3s model (2.3 motor)
5-door
moonroof
6-disc MP3 changer (dealer installed option, any dealer could get me that)

Color preferences:
Phantom Purple, phantom blue, black, red. NO grey, silver, or white.

everything else was negotiable.

Also, i don't know if it was because they forgot, or what, but to this day, my front plate bracket is in the storage bin in the back. i'm thankful they didn't put it on. i feel bad for you, you need it even less with that intercooler sitting up there ><;;

I just bought a new 08 white gt for less than sticker. Everyone said that they wouldn't do the s-plan (that my company offers), but everyone was willing to sell for that price. Amanda over at Jeff Haas was real easy to deal with, but I was also pretty sure what I wanted. They ended up driving to Austin to get the car for me.

while searching craigslist, there is actually a black 07 or 08 that was for sale... had i had the extra funds, i probably would have sprung for it.

except i remembered i live in Houston and the traffic is horrible, and didnt want to deal with a manual on 10 all the time lol
