Lightbulb 3G Protege: RX7 clear corner lamps

I picked up on a thread a few monnths ago about these. I bought mine on ebay about 6 weekes ago, but just got them installed. This is my first How To, so please go easy on me Thanks to KYREDP5 for getting me going. His thread on Clears

A Place to buy onlne or Search Ebay

RX7 Clear corners for your Protegé5

1. Remove the splashguards from each side of your car. This takes 3 screws from under your front bumper and 4 plastic plugs from your wheel well. (Trust me, it makes it a lot easier). Do for both sides.
2. Remove the side marker lights. Push the light towards the front of the car and push the light out from inside the fender.

Ok, your doing great!

3.Using a Dremel tool, take off the little plastic tab on the lights next to where the bulb goes into the light housing. (Sorry, no pic. I got a head of myself before I snapped a shot) If you don’t, it’s not going to fit in the hole.
4. Still using the dremel tool, make a notch on each side of the retaining screw thingy (not sure what it’s called). This will help it “pop” into place.

5. Make a small cut on the car. Measure, Measure, Measure!!! Don’t cut to much. You want the fit to be tight! That’s why we’re notching the light it’s self.
Don’t worry if the cut’s not perfect, it will be hidden behind the light.

6. Put the bulb in the light housing and pop into place.
7. Find your self a good-sized washer and some spacer nuts. When you put the screw back in this is going to pull the light real tight to the car’s body.

8. Ok, your almost there. Test your lights to make sure they both turn on and are working ok. You don’t want to put the car back together and find that one of your lights isn’t working.
9. Put the splashguards back in with the 3 screws and 4 plastic plugs that you took out.

The Finished Product
Don’t mind the dirty car, its done nothing but rain and snow for the last 5 days.

Question:

Instead of cutting the car at all, why couldn't you notch the light even deeper than you did, then maybe install it 90degrees off, and rotate it into place?

(It's kinda hard to tell exactly what's going on in the pictures)

The problem with that approach is that you have to slide the front part of the marker into the front hole then the back clip holds eveything in place.

The other thing is you would have to cut into the metal insert that is in the marker that the screw goes into. But hell, it's worth a try!

I just put mine on!! Thanks for the detailed "how to" on this man!!! I cut my ends ALL the way up instead of just "notching" it. Then had to use a file and trim just a little out of the bumper hole. I took my black foam trim off mine too (it stood out on my yellow too bad) I also used Hyper White bulbs to match all my other lights. I also noticed while i was doing it that my Injen CAI filter was dirty! LOL

Thanks again!!!!

Looks sweet man! How flush is it to the bumper? I've heard of having to bend them to fit the contour better or something, and in some pics it looks like it's not totally flush.

They are real flush.....like factory Equipment. I really think mazda likes to reuse parts where ever they can

Side note: My wife is from North Adams, MA and one of the guys from the truck club I'm in lives in Pittsfield. His name is Kevin.

Many thanks.
