The funny thing is that this ATX transmission can be easily fixed up to last forever for about 3 grand in labor and parts combined. Which is cheaper than purchase and install of a new transmission.

Its mainly dependent on driving habits but for the most part these transmission are relativly weak.
Right, the transmission might be considered weak if you are going to build up your motor.... but it being barely enough to hold your daily drivers? All Mazda 4bangers are going to have transmission issues? I'd like to hear a good statistic that shows that. I have an automatic transmission with 126,000 miles, I've beat the **** out of it, NOT in a daily driver fashion (it's been on the track). It was getting a little iffy, I changed the fluid (it's been AT LEAST 60,000 miles), replaced all the bolts, and she's running smooth as ever. Given the **** I've put it through, that's not bad!

Not like the old days when we could do daily burnouts and never have problems.

Back when I was in school I walked 2 miles in the snow, uphill both ways...

I wouldn't panic. I've seen two automatic transmission P5s with 50k+ in the area and both are running great. Assuming you don't drive the vehicle like a race car and exhibit proper maintenance/care you'll be fine.

A 2.0L 130hp vehicle can only be worked so hard.
GOOD FOR THOSE PEOPLE THAT HAS AUTOMATIC TRANS. BAD FOR ME CUZ I GOT STICK SHIFT.
and like i said i never redline the car nor try to race the car its my longdrivin vehicle...

And the stick shift is far more durable than the automatic... which is usually the case (except maybe with subaru )

All I know is that my old 85 626 did a hell of alot of burnouts and that things got over 350k on it now. Engine has been replaced once but the tranny is still there working hard. My little G5M has only seen ocassional rain burnouts minus one dry burnout early in its life. Yet the spider gears in the differential broke. I know I guy who drag races this little car and sheared the teeth off with a completly stock car.
