Questions for people w/ turbocharged 3rd gens

Hi all. Like most here in this forum, I'm looking long and hard at turboing my ES. I'd like to know who here actually has turbocharged their 3rd gen, which kit you used, how many miles you've put on the car since install, and have you blown up any engines.

TIA!

Paul

Essential Speeds turbo kit.

I have put about 25,000km maybe more since installing it.

Wow - all this talk and only one person here actually has an aftermarket turbocharged 3rd gen?

Paul

PS - thanks for the response Mark!

There is a guy here in Dallas that i was talking to durring a RX7 meet (for the life of me i can not think of his name) and he is running a modified Flying Miata kit on his MP3.

He said that he has gone through a motor which only lasted about a month or so, then it blew. He now has a new engine with new internals.

i believe that he may be a moderator on one of the RX7 forums, not too sure though. Really nice guy in any case, and that MP3 was VERY quick, it actually got me very interested in their potential.

I live in Gulf Breeze - work in Niceville - :P

Annoying commute, but I moved here from Atlanta area so I'm used to shitty commutes.

Any idea why he blew? Was it poor install? Operator error? Trying to exceed the capabilities of the kit?

hey tec-9-7 I talked to Patrick and he said that this was actually the 3rd engine he was on.

First one blew cuse of a to big of a dry shot of NOS

Sencond just broke a rod, not sure why because he is now running more boost than he was and his internals were the same as the MSP. The only thing he can think of was there it was a facoty flaw or something.

Third engine has new forged internals and no problems. He does however have a small oil leak that he needs to get patched on the return from the turbo (i think thats where he said it was) but other than that he has had no problems at all.

I usually frequent the other protege board, but I am at Eglin AFB. I have ordered Spool's Stage 2 kit with a Stage 3 Intercooler. I am also waiting for the stage 4 Standalone and Spools Turbo back exhaust. Should all be installed within the next 3 weeks. I'll let ya know when its all in and you can ride to see if you like it.
