Thumbs up Need HP for the MP3

Hey everyone. I'm new to the forum. I recently bought a 2001 MP3, and love it to death. The only downer is the real lack of horsepower. I am getting the Injen intake in the mail today, and am wondering what I should do next? Plugs/wires, exhaust, etc?

Any info would be great!

Thanks,
Scott

Cat back exhaust & Intake will gain you a little power. Then you can look into the Jspec Cams Those add a decent amount of power. And then hope a Supercharger will come out soon.

How many miles do you have on it? You will feel a big difference from 1000 miles to 5000 because of that break in period. I have the injen and love it. Go with the exhuast and then the cams and you will smoke any civic, well most of them; trust me.

I would hope that the rumors are true about the factory turbo kit. Since all the Mazdaspeeds are going to have the turbo kits installed at the ports of entry, that means that thet will be kits. I was just reading that the dealers are supposed to be offering this kit after the release of the Mazdaspeed this fall and that it will even be warranted. Works for me. I think I'll wait.

Tripoint engineering is almost done with their turbo kit, and seems like corksport and BEGI turbo kits will be available this summer.

Hey Razhael, do you have anymore info on those other 2 companies that are supposed to be releasing turbo kits? I've talked to corksport but want some other opinions and info from competitors. Also would like to know how they compare engineering wise.

The parts will be available for purchase, but it's not determined yet if it will be in a kit form. A lot depends on engine management, and fuel system upgrades. My guess would be the fuel system upgrades may be relatively minor if any due to the mild boost of the system. Engine management is still a question though.

Nice!

I installed the Injen intake this weekend and WOA, it gave me a great boost of HP. Big time throttle response difference, and it sounds a lot throatier. I will go with exhaust next, and then wait for that turbo kit to pop up.

Thanks for all the info guys.
Scott

Spoke with both BEGI and tripoint engineering last week. BEGI is installing their kit this week and hopes to be shipping in 8-10 weeks. The kit will be 6-8 psi, intercooled, and will use an FMU although they are exploring the ability of the stock fuel system to keep up and may have to put in a fuel pump. They are selling the first 10 kits at $2950 pre-release, and as of Thursday had sold 4 of them. The kit will be in the $3000-3400 price range depending on what extra parts they feel the car needs to be reliable like a better fuel pump.

Tripoint is also in the finishing stages of their kit and was putting one on a customers MP3 last week. They were hoping to have it completely installed by last Friday and start testing this week. They used an ES to actually develop the kit so everything should fit and have clearance. The are going to be somewhere in the same price range but will be shooting for up to 10 psi depending on what they feel the fuel system is up to also. They are also talking FMU and the kit may go up slightly in price if they feel it needs an inline pump to boost pressure. They are hoping to be able to ship by the end of May.
