Got Boost????????

Well I do damn it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I finally got the kit on. Right now its non-intercooled till i get my intercooler finished then it will be front mount. I'm running 5 PSI as of now but i will bump it up to 7 once the intercooler goes on. I will post pics as soon as I can get to a digital camera.

Yeah I drove it all last night and all day today so far and it feels great. No idle problems no check engine lights no funky feelings. Air/Fuel is good check all the plugs after running it last night and its running fine. Although I do have a wastegate problem as the wastgate i have is set to 10 PSI so the gate is already open so that it only will spool to 5 PSI hence much lag right now. I get full boost at 4K. Once i get the new wastegate I should have full boost at 2K-2500 but to give you an idea of the power gains...raced 3 different Si's last night and spanked every one of them. So i'm very happy with the results as of now once i get the wastegate fixed though I'm sure it will be much much better.

I got my first check engine today but nothing wrong with the engine i think its reading too much air going into the engine from teh MAF or the fact i don't have a Cat right now i'm guessing its probably the Cat.

I just have a question in terms of non intercooled vs. intercooled. Is it better for the engine to have an ic or is it just good for more power. Also how much power do you think you have right now. And how much did everything cost so far without the ic and piping. Thanks

Dustin

Intercooled is better for both power and engine. I'm going intercooled in a couple months i'm building the front mount now. I'm guessing i'm pulling around 180 ar the crank intercooled i'm going up to 7 PSI and i shoudl eb pulling 170-175 at the wheel.

c'mon guys 170+ views and only 6 replys and 3 of those are me....give me some feedback what do you all think? Sorry if I seem weird about it I just think its cool to have one of the 5-6 3rd gen turbos out there.

Where is the MAF? Is it right next to the throttle body because I can't see it.

Want to know what I think would be hella cool? Get a top mounted intercooler, then get a sweet hoodscoop to pour fresh air over it. KInda like the Subi's. That would be totally one of a kind.

Did you upgrade the fuel system or just strap on a turbo and go? I know little about turbos so I can't ask any smart questions

KICK *** rig man!

How come you have the unit all wrapped up? Trying to keep it warm or something?

how did you hook the whole works up to your engine? Do you have a website detailing how you hooked everything up?

What do you figure the total cost would be?

Looking good! Did you fab your own header or what? Any signs of detonation? How about a timing retard box? What's it like to drive with it at WOT? Lots of torquesteer? You think the clutch is gonna hold up?

I wouldn't mind boosting mine but a warranty is a terrible thing to throw away

IIRC you were trying to sell some turbo parts a month or so ago. Did you end up using those parts?

Since it may be a couple months before you get your intercooler, you might want to consider using colder plugs to reduce chances of detonation.

My guess is because of your BOV. I don't recall if the 3rd gen uses a MAP sensor or MAF sensor. But if you are running with a vented BOV then that will trigger the light. That appears to be a Mitsubishi T25 from an eclipse?

As far as the general running goes, I would get an EGT gauge in there before running it any harder. Non-intercooled and semi-stock fuel/ignition systems will melt that motor in no time. Have you retarded the base timing back towards 9 degrees? Using a RRFPR?

Be careful, boost can ruin things fast if not treated properly.

Otherwise, things look good. Keep it up.

Found out hte check engine was because of the fact I don't have a catalyst right now the code said Catalyst not effeicient. As far as fuel I'm using a FMU and I have a inline MSD pump. I'm only running 5 PSI non-intercooled and it is running fine. I have checked all the plugs constantly and they are all in the "green" I'm watching it close though since it is non-intercooled. As far as setting me back whole setup ran about 1G not too bad. I made everything myself including the manifold. and the MAF is right after the filter on the inlet side of the turbo out MAF's don't like Boost. And yes I am using the turbo parts I was trying to sell I'm making the intercooler into a front mount now. I do have a hairline crack in my manifold I found out tonight due to the cold *** temps here right now but we are going to take the header out and weld the **** out of it Friday and lay some more steel over top of it and weld in any thin spots to ensure it won't crack again. I'm going to build another manifold though in the future out of 1/4" thick mild steel.

Oh yeah as far as colder plugs go the stock Iridiums are IK14 for the Protege I'm running IK20 6 heat ranges cooler so I should be ok.
