Window Tint

Im looking to tint my silver Protege. Any suggestions on % or tint style, I was wondering if the reflective silver would look any good. Thanks for your input.

You definitely want to get it dark. I got limo tint and the rear and back windows on my p5 and I think it was 20-25% on the front windows with the limo strip on the top of my windshield. I shelled out about $200 for the tint. I'm not to fond of the mirror tint, but then again I haven't seen a P5 with mirror tint either. You might want to check what is legal in your state too, because what I have is definitely not legal in Nevada....but hey....what the hell.

get blk tint. That is the ONLY good looking tint IMO.
Also, if you are worried about cops, find out your state legal limit.

And shading type tints(blk at top, silver at bottom. vica versa) look butt-ugly to me...

Yeah...im in PA and the law is 70% of light must come through, which seems kinda high. I'd also most likely have it done professionally b/c i've seen ppl mess their car up doin it by themselves.

As a show-car guy, I disagree with tinting. Period. Especially the old addage "The darker, the better".
On the other hand, I am a mini-truck guy at heart so I am fond of tinting with style. Although it will cost more, be creative. One example is to have a tribal decal along the side of your car and have it 'continued' along your windows in tint. have your windows 'lightly' tinted with the continuation of the graphic in darker tint over top.
I guy I know had reflective tint cut out in flames comming from the bottom of his windows and then had a light tint behind it. Looked awesome!
Check out www.modernimage.net for graphic ideas. You dont have to use the graphics for the side of your car...use it for a tint design.
I know if I were to pay $200 for a tint job, I would want to do somthing custom that stood out!

Just my $0.02 CDN (approx. $0.0143902 USD)

I've seen a silver P5 with silver reflective tint and to me it looked kinda ghetto. The problem, IMO, is the black outline on our rear windows. When you put on the silver tint, you can still see this ugly black outline. I'm gonna get some regular black tint. Probably around 50% 'cause I'm paranoid and don't wanna get pulled over.

No offense to anyone! Your car's pretty tricked out, bman, so the tint sorta goes with the rest of the car. But if the silver tint was the only mod you had, it might look ...out of place or something.

Please don't get the silver tint, the black tint looks much better. I have 15% all around and a windshield banner. It ran me about $175, but it is well worth it. The black goes great with the silver.

remember the other bad ideas and concepts they have out there for window tinting. like the see thru yellow, red, blue and green... i know some of you have had to of seen this somewhere around. looks pretty good, just doesn't flow right, thats all, and despite that, everything outside of your car is tinted THAT color...could kinda **** with your vision a bit. by far, they're windows, you're meant to see out of them, whether you want to or not, you're going to eventually have to drive this thing after dark. my friend had a 89 iroc camaro with 5% all around cept the front windshield obviously, and even in bright daylight, couldn't parallel park that damn thing. tint helps a hell of a lot on sunny days, but anything darker than 25% IMHO purely cosmetic and serves no purpose except to 'look good'. best bet, get a steering wheel cover, buy some sunglasses and leave your windows down or the a/c up all the way. i mean, it's pretty sad, when you drive down the highway at night, starring through 5% tint to change lanes and you end up into somebody's car. cars with such dark tint look great, would definately keep the sun out of the car, but are purely for show.
peace

ps. i just read what i wrote, and started thinking of something, in PA, you have to sign a waiver form not holding the custom shop responsible. it depends on your style of car, most cops in the philly area don't hassle you if you're not driving fast, don't have a system, and don't have a sporty car... which the protege is a grey area, but doesn't look much like a sports car. anyway, good luck, by 70% being the state maximum for tinting, you have to realize your windows come tinted that dark from the factory, whether you realize it or can even see it or not, the state law pretty much makes tint anywhere on the car, even the rear windows or rear windshield... illegal! good luck

I was worried that my tint (15%) would be too dark. I only wish now I would have darker. There is absolutely no problem with seeing at night like I thought there would have been. I agree though window tinting is mostly for show. I was just tired of people being able to see me at red lights.
