Question why isn't leather an option in canada?

i usually find what i need with a search but didn't find much so excuse the newbie question - i was on mazda.ca and leather isn't listed as an option. i then went to mazdausa.com and leather is available but not with the laser blue color?! what's with that? i live in the vancouver area and would like leather when i get around to buying a new p5 so can any canadians confirm that we can't get leather from the factory?
thanks ....

From the two dealers I talked to about the leather option, it's not from the factory. Both dealers told me that they can get it done(they outsource it to some local shop) for $2000-2200 Cdn. One dealer had one in their showroom with leather and it was sweet but I wouldn't get it done for the price they're asking. Maybe you can get it cheaper where you are. Hope that helps.

there are no Protege's with leather seats in US. They are just seat covers from mazda. I asked my local dealer about it when I saw leather on a Pro in their showroom. You can sometimes find them on E-bay. they are like $600 from dealer and they are made for the Protege by Mazda.

A friend of mine got leather in her parent's P5 and that was last year. I think it's a dealer installed option.

I think there's even some people in Calgary or Edmonton that got leather w/ seat heaters.

i heard leather was an option availiable in the US for 2003 models.. any canadian cars that have leather is an option that was installed not by mazda but by request by purchaser or as an incentive by the dealer to get rid of old stock.. they source out the leather installs.. unsure if leather is an option in canada 2003 models..

I saw two yellow protege 5's at my local dealership with leather seats with the protege logo on them. They are a special order
option, not to sure on the price I didn't ask. The seats I saw were
a two tone yellow/Grey, VERY SHARP!

gsweetz has it, in Canada if you want leather it's an aftermarket install only, nothing to do with the factory. If you're Canadian and want leather, talk to your dealer and ask if they have had a local shop do it for any other customers of theirs. Chances are that they have.

Leather is a factory option on 2002.5 P5's. The reason you can't get it in Canada is probably because your *** will freeze to the seat when it gets cold.

Burlington Mazda has been doing leather conversions from an outside source since the P5's intro in May 2001. They charge $2000 plus tax, so you know they must be making a **** load of money. It is a nice conversion with very nice quality leather and an embroidered Protege5 logo on the headrests. I would have bought leather in my car had it been a factory option, but there is no way I would pay 2G's for the aftermarket conversion.

As of January 2003 orders for Canadian P5's there is a factory leather option availible with chrome wheels the option can be had only on cars with the 5spd, A/C, Roof or Auto, A/C, roof combinations. This is a factory installed option, now us Canadians can have the leather and chrome wheels.

That might have been me. If the original poster is from Coquitlam, Vancouver's not that far away. Have a look at http://www.nwautoleather.com. They have pics of some P5's there. BTW, the $1300 is in Canadian dollars.

dealer option

Here in Windsor at Windsor Mazda, it is a dealer option. They contract it out to a shop, I got mine in black with red inserts and P5 stiching across the back rest of the seat. It cost me an extra 1600can. Just seats, no door inserts.
