Arrow what are your opinions > 15 inch subs

hey..

alright.. im thinking about getting 2 15 inch alpine type r's for my protege and alpines fiberglass box. They will each be powered with 1000 watts from alpines amp. Im looking at alpines cda 7893 deck, and more then likely alpine tweets.

What is your opinion on this ? and.. whats your opinion with 2 15's powered with only ONE 1000 watt amp? All comments/suggestions are welcome.

thanks,

I just wonder about the cone size. Is that really too big for a fast bass to recoil and hit again? I don't know..

To begin you should be shot.

Ok the serious stuff.

Alpine doesn't make a 1000 watt amp, there biggest is a 500 watts rms at 14.4v only. So the most using alpine amps you could give the sub would be 500 watts apiece unless you have the older 1507. This is OK becuase the Typre R 15 can only take 500 watts rms anyways.

15's are OK if your going for db comps but with alpine amps you'll loose. Alpine is a SQ company not an SPL. For SQ you will need 8" midbasses in the doors becuase 15 are terible above 60 HZ. This will manyou'll need components in kick panels.

If you want to add 1000 watts worth of sub and just hard wire tweeters then you should be shot. this is also know as the audio equivalent of RICE.

Never amp a sub with more then 200 watts if your not amping the speakers. For 15's with that much juice then you should have good components, all around with atleast an alpine F340 powering them or equivalent.

You have 6x9s in the rear and 5x7/6x8 in the front. 2 15s will totaly drown out un aplified speakers. The Alpine amps are actualy a perfect match for those subs. More power to the Alpine subs aren't realy going to do anything.

Whats your eventual goal and budget here.

hey..

my goal? Get ******* great pounding bass still without any distortion or low quality ****. My budget.. well i am willing to spend up to 3500 or ABIT over.. for everything. And.. i checked the speakers in the protege.. could only get to the ones in the back [u can see em from the trunk] and i dont think they are 6x9s??

It says pioneer b21h [model number, but i cant find any models like that] 66 960 A (???) Max 25 watts

Im looking at 2 15s.. alpine type rs or maybe even some earthquake 15's..im still reading reviews on the alpine vs earthquake (but cant really seem to find any).. i am gonna go get a demo at a local car audio place.. And probably and earthquake amp, either the 500.1 (1000 watts) or the 700.1 (1500 watts)

The deck will be alpines cda 7893 [60W x 4 V-Drive Hybrid Amplifier] Every person that has this deck or has seen it says it rocks..

Obviously you want the Bass at the expanse of SQ. Being a true salesmen at hart so I will do my best to advise you to best meet your goals not my own.

No head units internal amp can keep up with 2 15's and 1000 watts. You will have 2 problems doing this. First you will barely here your speakers, Second becuase of this you won't here them distort a fry themsleves. I had 2 15" RF dvc with 500 watts on them and even with a 40x4 amp I still couldn't hear over the 15's.

By the way only use rms wattage values peak are usless.

I agree totaly with blue. The damping factor of an amp is critical.
Both of JL Audios Mono block amps have >500. the 500/1 and 1000/1 each with rms values per there names.
I think Alpines were about 300.

For $3500
You'll need atleast $300 in dynamat. I only use Extream. Original sucks and smells for 3 months if you do it right. You have to do the whole trunk and lid plus the doors and the backs of aloth of panels plus the rear deck. Blue can probably give better advice to where you need it then I. ALso use foam tape between each panel.

For 2 15" Alpines type Rs you'll need 2 500 watt rms amps or 1 1000 watt. Either way. figure almost a dollar a watt for a high damping factor amp. So figure $1000 in sub amps. The box adn other install meterials, wires distro block will be in totol around $500, probaly less but with this much juice you want to run1/0 from the battery.

Replace the battery with an Optima
Atleast 2 farads of capacitence, I'd use 3.

FOr the front stage I suggest a realy good set of 6 1/2 components in the front and matching Components or coaxles in the back. ALpine type Rs are good but there flagship stuff rules all. Unlike alot of other high line stuff, they can pound!
At least a 50x4 amp. I'd personaly use 150 watts rms to the fronts though. The rears are F-ing loud becuase they are so high and close to your ears. Any amping will make them loud.

You should be able to do all this retail under the $3500 if you do all the install.

The bulk packs of extreme are like $250 on sounddomain and I think $300 retail. They come with 36 sq feet though. I already used 2 of them in my car. Just keep stocked in band aids. That stuff is sharp.

hey.

thats alot of good info, thanks alot guys.
But.. i dont really know anymore, like im being told lots 3 10s would be really nice.. All i want is some good bass/punch.. and everything under 3500 or so.. amp + deck + soundproof + subs + box.. think thats it..

so im very interested in the 3 10s.. alpine type r's again.. with 900-1000w amp? A really good one. What u think about this now??

Every since I got my sound system set up, I stopped researching car audio, but I'm assuming that the alpine type-r's are either 4 or 2 ohm, so running 3 of them in parallel will be a tough load for an amp to handle. If you want 3 subs I'm pretty sure JL's are 3 ohms. Personally I have a 15" IDQ and love it. Not a huge amount of SPL cause I'm more into SQ, but gets more than loud enough and hits low so even when the volumes low I can feel it since I mostly listen to rap. I think 2 12's or 1 15 should be good, but I don't have near the expierence these other guys have

just my 2 cents,

Shayne

Alpine typer Rs are dual 2 ohm or dual 4 ohms. The dual 4 ohms can be wired series to 8 ohms apiece and then paralled down to 2.667 ohms. JL had a model of subs that were dual 6 ohm drivers, W6. I don't think any of the current ones are dual 6, possibly the W3v2s but I could be wrong.
