Hey just to let everyone know.. First off JL Audio does NOT authorized any internet sales, and will not WARRANTY any products in which the serial #'s are gone, scratched, or non-traceable.

All JL equipment in serialized in numerous places, they can take apart a JL Audio sub and find the serial # somewhere internally to fine if it is faked. Highly unlikely they would ever do this but CAN.

Don't chance eBay JL Audio..

Also onlinecarstereo.com is selling JL Audio equipment at better prices than you can get at your local shop. The 1 YEAR warranty is covered by them, NOT JL Audio. Also be very certain if you purchase from them because their supplier (koby-international.com) NO LONGER sells JL Audio equipment. The got in trouble for doing so by GUESS WHO?

When spending this kind of money save a little extra and buy it with warranty, get installed by JL Audio shop and recieve an extra year of warranty.

Just some wise information for you all. If you want to risk say 500+ bones on a W7 off ebay, and not have it work or something else go for it, let us know if everything turns out fine..

Dude - this is kind of old news, and nearly all online retailers selling equipment at great prices in non-authorized - regardless if it's JL equipment or not.

There's a reason (among others) why places like Crutchfiled sell equipment at significantly higher prices than other, smaller outfits - they ARE authorized, and as such, they agree to sell items not below prices set by the manufacturer.

JL seems to one of the stricter companies concerning authorized vs. unauthorized sales (just ask 1st MP3 in NH). But it's not only JL.

why buy a warranty. When something busts, buy the same exact thing, then put the broken back in the box, seal it up and take it back. LIFETIME WARRANTY PROGRAM for a low low cost of NOTHING!

Guys like this are why your credit card interest and insurance are so high. Straight up scammer - like that WRX guy who *thought* he was gonna have his overboosted and blown engine warranty covered, until other Subie owners blew the whistle on him. Good for them.

Saddest thing about that is exactly that. It's because of those people Car Audio is so expensive..

Also, I'll call you my pal for now.. Try that SCAM with JL Audio, because warranty is based on Serial #, are you gonna transfer Serial # plates and think the dealership isn't gonna notice, before a dealership can warranty JL Audio they have to call JL Audio and give Serial # and then JL Audio tell the dealer what to do from there..

Try it, the dealership will first laugh at you, then say hey I guess your fucked pal...

Good for those guys, shitting all over that *******. That guy was a moron, who overboosted the hell out of his engine. modded it like crazy without knowing what he was doing, then cries and tried to scam a new motor under warranty when he blew his **** up. He got what he deserved.

At the very elast, he shouldn't have been on the net BRAGGING about it (bringing back memories of the Mustang Cobra technician who ragged all over this lady's Cobra, bragged about it online, then got caught and ****-canned. The woman who owned the car actually FOUND the thread online! HA!)

That's the reason audio is so expensive? You do realize that most retailers (Circuit City, Best Buy) mark up their car audio stuff around 100%, right? It's all so they can make a profit. Hell, when I was working at Circuit City the manager even tried pushing that kind of stuff all the time just because of that. I saw stuff in that store marked up 700%! I kid you not.

I seriously doubt the 100%.

I worked selling car audio for years. The standard markup (MSRP) is anywhere from 20% up to 45%. Usually the cheaper stuff will have the lower mark up and the high end stuff can go up to 40%. Most JL audio at retail is a 40% margin. IE: speakers might have a cost of 100 and sell for 180. This is 45% margin.
Not to mention when you sign you agreement to become a dealer for said car audio manufacturer, you agree to their msrp pricing.

The only time I could see a 100% markup would be in some cheap POS gear. Maybe a $50 cost audiovox cd player selling for $150. That would be 100% markup. So to summarize... most car audio gear will never be more than 45% marked up.

And the only thing that could even remotely come close to 700% markup would be wiring.

If cost of a product is 5 dollars, and they sell it for 10 dollars, that's considered marking it up 100%, right?
I didn't mean the margin of difference, but it is 100% more, and it was just a misunderstanding in words I guess.
Well, in the time that I worked for Circuit City I bought many products that were marked a LOT. They had some MTX subs they were selling for 150 dollars each. Price on those that I bought them at? 48 bucks.

The 700% markup thing you caught easily.

You guys argue about JL Audio too much. JL is just a name. Screw the name... go with something that is cheaper and just as good. Clarion and Boston are both great. Infinity is a bitchin company. JL is for posers.. clear and simple. Unless your showing your vehicle, go with someone cost effective.
