Testing for quality

How do people test for SPL & DBs when it comes to car audio? I have a lot of electronic gadgets here at work... Im sure one of them will do what I want.

SPL is a special Meter you have to buy , which is very expensive .
Sq is certain songs they test the quality with a special Mic once again.

IIRC one can be found at Radio Shack, it's called and SPL meter (Sound Pressure Level)

An RTA (Real Time Analyzer) is used in conjuction with the judge's ears to calculate the SQ. An RTA looks like a big equalizer.

In both cases a special mic is used along with software, cables and a good tuner.....
