Angry subwoofer problem

in my car i got 2 10-inch kickers reverse mounted

i got them off my friend and one of them is blown, but he said that you can only tell when you have that one really pumping, and said that it would be alright to hook it up

so i had them both goin for about a month and it sounded great

then today i noticed my bass wasnt as loud as usual, so i looked at the subs and only one was hitting(the non blown one) so i turned my system off and checked all the wires and everything, and it still wouldnt work ....but then i had it goin and when i pushed on it (its reverse mounted so it would be going out) it would start to hit and go for about 10-20 seconds and stop

what is the problem here?!?!?!

oh yeah the blown sub has a very little tear, about one inch, in the cone and i plan to get it reconed soon, so if anyone knows of do it yourself kits, i would appreciate some info

thanks

If you have one blown sub and the 2 speakers share the same enclosure, you will lose bass output. The reason is because the blown woofer will no longer be able to pressurize the enclosure it reacts with the air moving around by the woofer that's still working. The problem with this is that the dead woofer is moving in the opposite direction of the one that is working making it out of phase. The bass frequencies will cancel eachother out and you will lose output even though they are both moving. If you're on a budget, just take the dead woofer out, and seal up the hole.

the way that my box is set up ....

it has 2 compartments seperated by a center divider, so they each have their own part

and i put the other one on in the 1st place so that it would stop the air from gettin out even more..(cause i just had the 10-inch hole there)
