Subwoofer Problem!

okay, so i ordered the 12" fusion jonah lomu's which should be in this week. i did not know the subs weigh 45lbs each! i got two 12's each needing 1.44cuft sealed, so that is gonna be a HUGE box (in relation to the p5 hatch). so my "problem" would be weight/size, since i wanted a separate chamber for my dvd player. i dunno if i should go with sub floors (which is more $$$) or just a big box in my hatch. or maybe cancelling the 12's and getting one 15 instead. any thoughts?

hey dude!
for any other person, i would've suggested going with one 15 since it'll reach the lower frequencies, but since you've got such a sweet ride and seem to have some money to spend, i'd say you should fibreglass the rear and have 2x12"ers with plexiglass, neons and the works.... just make it a show car (not that it already isn't! )

It depends on what you are going for. Higher SPL - do the 2 12's in the proper box or for SQ - 15 in sub floor. Plus you would also gain some of your hatch back.

altho these are mainly spl subs, they do have an amazing amount of sq. i think the fiberglassing/subfloor may be the way to go, and just make a nice/decent system in my gf's car.

i guess we'll see when the subs come in.

If you go with a fibre enclosure in the floor your still going to have to raise your floor a good 4-5". I have one SS usa in a fibre tub in the wheel well and I needed 3 sheet thickness of mdf to get the sub to sit right. That's also with removing the little middle hold down for the spare.

I would reccommend some kind of an ergronomic sealed or ported box.
