sub question

so i came across a home theater amp/sub all in one box that sounds awesome, and i was thinking perhaps i could get a power inverter and throw that puppy in my trunk. now, is this going to be a R.I.P. altenater situation, or can this be done? if so, i'd like to know what type of inverter i should get to handle amperage or what have you so my car electrical system doesnt go into complete meltdown.

THe biggest problem you'll have is taht inverters add ALOT of electrical noise to a stereo. The silly thing is that the amp you've got in that thing likely has a ac-dc inverter in it to begin with.

That's true about the possibility of the amp having an inverter in it, your best bet might be to open up the case on it and see if you might be able to remove the inverter and power it straight from the 12V system. You might need to adjust the voltage, but it can be done.
