steering wheel swap

Has anyone tried swapping steering wheels? I have a 00 Protege ES and would like to *upgrade* to the miata style Nardi Steering wheel.
Has anyone done this? You think I would need a *new* nardi wheel with an airbag, or could I just swap the airbag out from my current wheel. My instinct tells me no- and that its going to be rediculously expensive, but I thought I might ask.

you can only upgrade to the pro5 or 2002+ es steering wheel, and at the least you would need to get the wheel, air bag, and the cruise control switch. the miata wheel would be nice, but it is the same thing as the pro5 wheel. (at least VERY close)

I was thinking about doing that but swapping my steering wheel for the P5's one, mine is the regular 4 spoke steering wheel, can it be done?

yes, it can be done, but will cost you an arm and a leg since you have to buy an air bag designed to fit the wheel.

Not only will you have to get the air bag but you will need to find out if the propellant in your older car for the air bag will be the same with a new lower propellant needed airbag. The sensors will remain the same but you may have different connections on each of the airbags.

Just remember when switching any of the air bags out that you need to disconnect the battery and let the airbag deeneregize otherwise you could be all white in the face. (talcom powder)

Momo has something designed for their wheels that fools the sensor into thinking there is an airbag there. Thus shutting off the warning light. But be prepared for your insurance not to cover it in an accident.

yeah, it's just a little wire with a resistor in it.

That sounds very complicated and expensive, not worth it IMO, I guess ill keep my 4 spoke steering wheel.

Disabling the airbag is not an option, I'd rather live with my 4 spoke than die with a nice 3 spoke steering wheel.

Buy a leather wheel cover. I think I am going to get a wheelskin cover. I think thats what its called anyway. Do a search and you will find more info on them. You have to lace them on which takes a lot of time but it will look really nice and won't slide around like other covers.
