this will soon be moved to car audio, but i'll reply.
spkrs are okay for stock, but many ppl have upgraded. i believe the 6spkrs they are referring to are the addition of tweeters, but i'm not too sure.
if it were me tho, i'd consider upgrading. (yeah, and ppl on this board will say, "gee, onehawaiian suggests upgrade? what a surprise") hehe, i love car audio so i HAD to upgrade, but if you're okay with the stock sound they are surprisingly good...for stock.

If you get a 2002 1/2 P5 it will have 6 speakers. The additional 2 speakers are tweeters in the doors right by the side mirrors (these were one of the midyear changes eveyone is talking about). The stock speakers sound ok, but really don't have a whole lot of "oomph" to them. I definately will be replacing mine with component speakers. As an added bonus though, you don't have to do any custom fabrication for component tweeters on a midyear model. Just swap out the speakers!

The stock speakers are the absolute top-of-the-line, kick *** speakers - oh, yeah - as far as THIN PAPER cone speakers with half-dollar sized magnets go.
They sound reasonbly good, actually - I don't think I would have guessed they were thin paper cones. But - they don't handle much power, which is a good thing because the stock deck barely puts out any.
If you are not into loud listening, I'd say the stock system is pretty decent. But just remember - this is an ECONOMY car - it does not have all the sound deadening and insulation like a Mercedes or Lexus. Once you get going 70 MPH, the car can be a bit noisy. It's not really annoying or anything, but it is a bad thing for an underpowered audio system. You will find the road/wind noise drowning out the audio somewhat, and that DOES get annoying.
I'd say you have three choices: You can live with it, upgrade the stereo, or sound-deaden the car like crazy and enjoy one of the finest paper-speaker systems on the market today.
But it all depends on what YOU want from your audio experience.

I like it
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I think the stock system on my P5 is pretty damn good. I'm an up-in-years-a-bit (40)rock-n-roller and usually it's my kid telling me to turn the music down. I like techno and Rave and breakbeat as well as grindcore and Death-metal/punk and I tell you this system beats the hell out of the 8-track I had in my Pinto blasting AC/DC and Rush in '78. And the neighbors used to complain serious about that! I agree that a 1400 watt amp(which by the way is more power then the Beatles had at the Hollywood Bowl) kicking it to 4-12" subs and $300 tweeters would be louder, but how much can you really take?(just ask Lemmy(his answer would probably be "Wah you say?")) But I say save your money for things that a car is really for like going fast. Or better yet, save it for doing cool things when you get to where ever the hell the car has taken you.
Just my $.02

speakers
Does anybody know how many watts the stock CD/cassette puts out? If the deck can't handle more powerful speakers there's no sense in replacing them. (I've got the mid-cycle model - 6 speakers).
The sound system is OK, but when ya crank up the volume the sound quality gets muddier as it gets louder. not bad with windows closed, bot with everything opened up...fahgget it! A little separation tween the highs and lows would be great.
Any thoughts?
