Does anyone have this alarm installed? The one I took had it from the factory and I found out within 30 seconds that it sucked. Does anyone know if it is possible to have the doors automatically lock themselves after x number of seconds after you close a door?

I'm not sure what you mean by upgraded alarm. Mine came with some sort of alarm with a shock sensor inside of the dash. The installation is rather shoddy in that both peices are just zip tied to the wiring harness. Looks very unprofessional IMHO.

I don't use mine. I find alarms pretty useless anyway. Most ppl just ignore them

My gripe with the Mazda Protege alarm is that you cannot get an engine immobilizer as part of the system, unlike the Miata which comes with a factory immobilizer. I have had two cars stolen with factory (non-immobilizer) alarms, one of them an RX-7, and those cars could not have been stolen in the fashion used to steal them if an immobilizer system was in place. I have since installed in all of my vehicles, including my P-5, a Viper system which includes engine kill. Whether or not people pay attention to the alarm, at least someone can't punch out he ignition and start the car.

the thing about the compustar is that it will page you if somebody is tryng to steal the car...the newest model has like 1.2 mile range with spread spectrum technology....that the main reason why i got mine

it will take a while though so you'd best plan a day trip... mine took like 5-6 hours... my friend does it a bit slower than usual but he keeps all the wiring clean and hidden (that and there's a LOT of stuff to install). The $650CDN is for the 2WFM-AS which includes:
- the alarm module w/remote (range is about 400m so that's like a little over 1200ft.)
- shock sensors in all 4 doors
- hood pin
- trunk pin
- starter kill (which CAN be used in conjunction with the stock immobilizer - that's the setup i've got right now)
- siren
features this puppy has are:
- 2 stage alert
- turbo timer
- remote start
- timed start (for cold weather)
- passive arming
- auto arming
- paging (duh! why else would i buy it! hahaha!)
- 2 aux buttons (i've got one wired to my deck so i can leave the tunes on for whoever's still in my car and take the keys with me, the other to my sunroof so i can close it remotely when it starts to rain)
- trunk switch (pointless for our cars, but you can wire this to something else though)

the sunroof thingie requires an additional module, but aside from that, you'd have everything i've got... if ya want one just let me know dude!

My standard alarm does that.. but only if you unlock the car and never open the doors.... Then it will lock back up in like 30 - 45 seconds. Quite a nice feature. Good for if u accidently hit the unlock button in ur pocket and dont know it or sumpin like that....

You should check out CODE-ALARM, they are the factory OEM for some high end luxury cars.

The main difference is their shock sensor technology. It uses a infrered beam instaed of spring/rubber band. REduces false alarms caused by temp chg/mositure. Also, there starter Kill is OPEN-CIRCUIT. this means that the circuit stays OPEN unless unarmed. So if the theif is to rip out your alarm they still can't start the car. With most other alarms, it is CLOSED cricuit unless the alarm its triped......

A Zone-Alarm is about $300/400 installed...i forgot....PM me if you want more info. Mine came with lifetime warrenty on brain and remote. Most other brands is remote only.

If you think $400 is expensive, to test the other companies' sensitivity of their shock senor, hit different parts of the car with the same strength. Some areas will be more sensitive then others. But not with zone alarm. Everything is the same all around. I think its worth it.

oh and btw, the compustar is also open circuit... if the module was left in the armed position, the car won't start no matter what... the only way to disarm the sucker is to activate the manual valet mode (for which you need the key assembly intact, smashing the assembly open and hot wiring won't be able to activate manual valet).

oh and one more thing FYI, i did get the stock immobilizer (thrown in w/the car) but when my alarm went in i found out what it really is... It's just a damn push-button switch at the end of the key hole ... so basically if ya didn't have a starter kill, all a theif would hafta do to hotwire your car is shove anything down the key hole, and ZAP! VROOM! VROOM! and ZOOM! ZOOM! ZOOM!

Hey Chumpman...I just found out about a local shop in seattle that has the Compustar Line...actually only 2 places in seattle have it...

I investigated one of them and found out that one of the shops less then 5 minutes away from my house has one of the original installers that helped create the compustar line in Alaska. I had him install the works and I must say that this is one sweet system...I did not know that the pager system has a knock sensor that you can attach to the windshield. Cool tool if your friends left something in your car and you do not want to go to your car...

oh, and btw, if you want to reprogram anything yourself, all the instructions are here ...
now the only thing i can't seem to get to work is this:
when i remote start my car, and THEN i unlock/unarm the sucker, the dome/keyhole light doesn't turn on (where it normally does if i don't remote start)... it's not that big of a deal, just that sometimes when it's dark, it takes me a while to find the keyhole (made a couple scratches in the process)... if you figure out how to fix this, plz share! thanks dude!
