Question "Shaving the Emblems" question...

if i took off the MAZDA emblem and the PROTEGE emblem off the trunk lid, there would be holes. i know to "properly" fill these in they should be welded and repainted. but could i just use bondo and primer to fill in the holes and then add touch up paint, and a clear coat, wet sand that down and add a polish/glaze to the top? i surely don't want to attempt this if it won't work or won't look right.

You have answered your own question . If you fust use bondo to fill the holes it will pop out . You must weld the holes, grind ,fill sand ,prime and then paint the trunk lid . Sorrt I don't know any easier way and have it look good .

The only way I could imagine Bondo working in this situation is if you were to put some mesh tape on the inside of the holes. A "plug" of bondo will quickly pop out, unless it has something behind it to grab onto. If you put the mesh tape behind (inside the trunk lid) and worked the bondo so it "smushes" into the tape, it should hold fine.

But the finishing might be very tough with just touch up paint and clear. You're going to have a hard time getting the blend right, and it will almost definitely be noticeable when you're done.

But - there's really no harm in trying, because if you don't get good results, it's no more work to just pop out your bondo plug, and have the holes welded, ground, and painted properly. All you really lose is your time by trying it this way first - you can always do it the "right" way later on.
