scosche wiring harness and dash kit question

Hi all, I'm an audio noobie so i got some questions to ask. I've already browsed the forums many times and did some searches but I still couldn't find the answers so maybe someone here can help me out.

I recently purchased the scosche wiring harness and dash kits. The number for the kit is MA1537B, and the harness is MA03B.

I'm pretty sure the dash kit is fine and all but my question is are the B's at the end relevant to anything?

I'm also worried about the wiring harness because it says for 2000 and up mazda's, but i think i read here that we need 2001 and up. I asked the sales rep about it and he said on the computer it shows 2001 and up. Am i good to go with both of these items? It's for use in my p5

Thanks for the help!

ps. what do you guys think of the scosche dash kit? I don't really like how the pocket is so small and there's a little extra peice of plastic up top for no reason.... I was thinking about using the mp3 pocket but i also read that it's very expensive. Is there chance i can find the same pocket (i like the lid feature) or a similiar one for much cheaper? and if i were to use the pocket, would the installation be a bigger hassle because i'm not using the kit? and also would there be gaps using the pocket or would it be a tight fit? I really like the looks of the mp3 pocket but I don't want to sacrifice a good fit for it.

Thanks again!

I have the Scoshe dash kit in my P5 and I think it's great. It fits great and have had no problems with it. The piece of plastic you are talking about is for when you put CD jewel cases in the pocket it holds them so they won't move around inside.

As for the wire kit I used the Metra brand and it said it was for 2000 - 2002 protege on it . So chances are you should be ok with the Scoshe kit.

Hope this helps you out!!!

The MA03B is for the 2002+ cars. That is what I have. There is an A and a B version I believe (don't have the packages in front of me...). One is the harness that plugs into the car's wiring from the deck, the other is the one that plugs into the car's factory deck from the wiring (not sure which is which). Since you are installing a new deck, you want the harness that plugs into the car's wiring. I believe the connector you need is the male one (with pins rather than sockets).
