Roof racks in Canada

Ok, since the Canadian version of the Protege5 didn't come with a roof rack standard, I'm wondering if any1 knows of a company that makes a rack that will fit in the factory holes? Let me know...big road trip coming up in August...2 animals, golf clubs...it would be nice to off load some of the luggage to the roof. Thanks in advance...ciao...

You can get a roof rack right from your mazda dealer - They had one installed on a p5 in the showroom when i bought mine. Don't know $ or anything, but it was mounted into the roof rack holes.

I know that yakima and thule both make racks that fit our cars, but i dont know if they use the mounting holes or not...

Hi Kore

I bought the roof rack when I bought my P5 and it is a Mazda item. I paid $300 + GST (no PST in Alberta) for it and it is quite solid and simple. It also fits the Yakima hardware my son has for his rack.

The mazda rack needs no tools to install or take off and it simply fits in the holes already in the tracks. You simply remove the covers and screw in the racks. Comes with 4 keys as each mount location has a locking cover. I don't know why 4 keys as one key opens all the locks.

I am really trying to post some pics on this site as there sure has been a lot of questions on the Canadian racks.

Cheers
Chris

I have a US rack in Michigan that I might part with. Probably the same as the Canadian rack. I don't use it any more, since I like the look of the car better without it. Anyhow, if I do part with it, I will include all fasteners and trim panels, with the exception of the "fill" panels that are used to cover the holes when the rack is removed. Let me know what you think.
