Replacement P5 Spoiler

I was thinking of putting an aluminum wing on my P5 instead of the dinky little spoiler that we have now. First off, what's it gonna take? I know how to remove the stock one, (I've got the shop manual) but what should I do with the brake light, etc? The other route is just to bolt another on top of the stock wing. I've seen both done, and although it'd be far more of a hassle, I like the idea of removing the stock wing for a replacement. The only problem there is filling the mounting holes, but the car is painted underneath.

There's a fellow in here from www.toprotege.com with a Silver P5, red graphics all down the side, and white rims, all tricked out with a phat wing setup on his car, so if you read this, please do reply.

I'm just looking for suggestions here, so if you have anyhting to say, please let me hear it!

Thanks!

Why would you want to rice up the car with an aluminum wing? You need more downforce (hahaha).

Sorry, but I hate those stupid things.

Anyway, you will have holes in the hatch if you remove the stock wing - you'd either need to get them filled and painted, or put some plugs in them (almost as ugly as a wing - almost). Dealing with the brake light sounds like a custom fibergalss job to me.

Oh, please, lord - I hope this is too difficult, and you change your mind about the wing.

So are you the red P5 with the red calipers drivin around the NW in Calgary? If so...I think you should keep it the way its already set up....It was sweet!!! You SO don't need an Aluminium spoiler. I'm not much into it either - a bit too much if you ask me. c-yah around.

hey Maxx Mazda how old are u, u look pretty young....
I think only the younger kids including myself like the aluminium wing setup.....
no offence to anyone out there

I asked a few older friends of mine and they didn't like that GT type wing look...

I was considering a roof wing too.... and I saw the page u posted b4 about the silver P5... I didn't like it after he removed the stock spoiler.... too many black dots remained in the hatch....

so I'm thinking of putting a roof wing over the stock.... like a no drilling type with hooks that hook onto the hatch (the space between the hatch edge and the stock spoiler.... but I don't have the dimension of the clip so I dunno if it'll fit without removing the stock spoiler.

I've seen a setup like this on a silver Golf GTI and it looked great!

Thats got to be like the worst thing you can to to your pro5. As to it being a younger thing I'm 21. I got some friends that got them, on there civics, its not an indy car. Just my 2 cents. In the end its your car and your decision.

RICE RICE BABY. Hell no dude, that would look like ****. Those rice wings belong on sprint cars, not street cars. I think you would totally be taking a decent looking car, and making it into a joke. Just my opinion though, and I'm sure most will agree with me.

Aluminum rice wing =

at the WIC show/races here, some guy had actually added the aluminum wing on top....still had the stock one on too....omg...hidious is how it looked....I didn't even want to waste the space on the digital cameras disc to take a pic so we could laugh later!

they look bad enough on sedans that are running around on the street....they look even worse on a P-5

Whether you like it or not is your call but I would like to add that you will have functionailty problems with your hatch. I have seen it done and it restricts the amount that you can open the hatch without scratching the roof or the hatch depending on where you mount it.

To Protege5chick:

Where'd you see me??? I'm the only P5 in Calgary with the painted calipers, (as far as I know) so that was indeed me. (Hell, I'm ALWAYS in the NW!!! I'm getting the windows blacked out this weekend, and the rims are in on Friday allegedly, so the car will look alot different once I've got those done. If you'd like to meet up for coffee or something (on me) that'd be great. I'm still waiting to hear back from Don668, but maybe the three of us could meet up sometime? Drop me an email if you'd like to discuss it further.

To tttP5:

I'm 17 (check the sig) but after looking around, I've decided not to do the wing. I might consider the MintBlue wing, but those are expensive to import.

To Sweedenhouse:

Ok, ok, ok... You've convinced me!

To Sir Nuke and markmurray77:

Not to worry, I've decided against it after all...

To Taxmasta:

That's the car I was talking about! Nice setup man, very original and I like that!
