removing radio cd headunit on p5
Hey,
SirNuke did a great post that I used to remove my head unit. He shows 3 coat-hanger tools he made to remove the radio head unit. I had some problems getting them to work until I could visualize what was behind the radio that the tools needed to connect with. So I found it helpful to remove the glovebox (10 screws, easy) and the u-shaped peice of plastic that goes under the steering column. Then you can see both sides of the radio unit and the clasps that hold it in. And you can see how the tools work. That made it much easier for me.
To remove the glove box, just remove the 10 screws and it drops right out.
To remove the u-shaped peice of plastic under the steering column, start at the top of the u and pull out. DO NOT START at the bottom of the peice, because there are no pull tabs down there holding it in, but rather it hinges down there. So start at the top, pull out the 3 pull tabs, working your way down, until it hinges on the bottom hinges.
