Red Instrument Cluster

I was wondering if anyone knows how I can change my instrument cluster lights to red? Not the amber red like it is stock but blood red. That dark, dark red. You know red red! Thanks!

i think there was a thread on here before about changing them and there's a certain thing to make them blood red. i'm almost positive try searching for anything that has to do with changing cluster lights or something.

If you take out the cluster, you can get at the bulbs in the back. They have little orange "condoms" on them - to give them the amber color. The back of the gauge faces are also amber-colored, so don't think you can have blue gauges just by changing the "condoms" - it won't work. BUT...

If you can get your hands on some different colors of the "rubbers", or even some colored bulbs, you can try different colors until you come up with red - I think putting blue in there DOES get you more red, though I'm not sure how close it is to what you want - something about blue light through the amber gauges makes a red color, I guess.

That's the best way to at least try it, IMO. Anything else requires removal of the gauge face, and we're still waiting on "bogwoofer" to reveal his secrets as to how to do that safely, then change the color of the faces from behind (hint, hint, wink, wink, bigwoofer!)......

last week i ordered an LX cluster for my DX, and i bought some red bulbs. when i hooked it up, it illuminated red but it wasn't bright at all, so i returned the bulbs and stuck with the stock bulbs. maybe if you can find some BRIGHT red bulbs it would illuminate better.

the red APC 194 bulbs are the ones that i bought as well. i was hoping that they would be brighter than they were, but i wasn't satisfied with the low illumination. i found that there was a HUGE difference in the illumination (it was a lot less) of the red APC bulbs compared to the stock bulbs with the green little condoms.

yeah, i guess i was just expecting too much from the APC bulbs. the blue led project sounds like a great idea! how many LEDs are there total?
