I heard somwhere that they srew in or use guide pins to mount on the trunk. Someone on this board shaved his trunk (filled the holes and painted over them) Try removing the trunk interior trim and look for two screws or something

Donno about the 2000 protege but on my 2002 ES all i had to do was instert a thin object between the emblem and the paint (PLEASE DONT USE A SCREWDRIVER!). I used the edge of a piece of paper to gently cut away at the glue. Once the glue was about halfway cut, grab the emblem with your fingernails and pull on it hard. There will be some glue left onto the paint which you can rub away with your finger. There were no screws, but two rods inserted into plastic holders. I couldn't see anything in the trunk so I said "what the hey"

I removed my M logo and my MAZDA emblem that way. I still need to fill up the ugly holes and paint over them so I have the emblems ON the car as of now. The holes are REALLY ugly without the emblems.

If you want to take any emblem off your car thats glued on, just use dental floss! trust me, it works like a charm

Yeah, use a hair dryer/blow dryer and heat it up, then floss it off :P

First use fishing line or dental floss to work threw the glue all the way around. Then from inside the trunk lid cut the plastic anchors that hold the stems from the emblem and it will come off with your figure nails.
Actually you don't even need to cut the anchors. Just use something like a coat hanger wire from the inside and push it out from the inside.

Just rip them off, putty the holes, weld a piece of steel in behind so the putty will never weaken, take off the spoiler and repaint the trunk.

That's what I did Always a bit of a perfectionist but alas no more. eheh.

Open your trunk and look inside behind the license plate. You'll see little prongs poking out. Get like a butter knife or something flat and push them out the emblem will pop right out. Be careful if you try to pull it from the outside you can brake the little prongs.

If you are planning to rip one of a different car get a butterknife slip it under the emblem near one of the prongs and pull out!! It works. hehe. Thats how i got the italic "Protege" emblem. Better then the old rectangular one
