Rattling - Air leak?

I heard that somewhere in all cars there is a place where air goes from the trunk to the rest of the car, and that's what causes the rattling. Supposedly you can seal this hole, and it causes all of the rattling to stop... Has anyone heard of anything like this? Also, I have a '93 protege, where the seats fold down. Do you think it would be a good idea to maybe put a few inch thick piece of plexi glass or something between the trunk and the back of the seats to stop the rattling? Just wondering.
