ive seen some level eq's installed. Look nice. The way i look at it is, if you know how to use em and set em up then ull be fine with it. If u dont know how to use it dont get it.

My friend had to buy a Eq for his Kicker Amp because it was so old it needed the eq for bass boost for his sub tubes in his truck.

I wanna try to figure out how to use one "correctly".

But why u want a level converter/eq anyways?!?!?!

not an equalizer, a converter. i've seen some that tap into your speaker lines, and convert the signal into a low level signal with rca jacks.

so, what i want to do is keep my stock head unit, and run an amp and sub. the problem is that the amp i have only has rca jacks, not speaker level inputs. get it?

HAHAHA!!!! Is NY just the thief capital of the world or something?? I think it depends on where you are - New York is a BIG state.

But back to the topic - David Navone makes probably the finest line-level converters, and he's a moderator at CarSound.com's troubleshooting forum. Anyway, his converters are sold through a company called SoundGate. In one of his posts on that board I mentioned, he gave an 888 number and someone to talk to at SoundGate - Rob or Rich @ 1-888-760-4707.

Might be worth a call. You can definitely do this, but it pays to get good advice and good products. Call that number, and I'll bet with a quick explanation of your situation, those guys will steer you in the right direction.

Good Luck!

i'm not from a high population desity part of the state. if you guys have ever been to central new york, you know what i'm talking about. however, i have had a system stolen the cost me a total of $200 to put together. so if you think that flashy has anything to do with something getting stolen, it doesn't. so long as who ever steals what you have can sell to get money for drugs, it doesn't matter.

hihoslva:
thanks for the lead. i will have to check it out.

Hihoslva is right on the numbers- David Navone builds the best Line Out Converters (LOC) I have used. They can also be ordered direct from davidnavone.com . He is a absolutely great person, very approachable and extremely smart.
Besides his LOC units, he sells a second unit, a signal sensing turn on unit, that works fantasic with Proteges. The LOC units allow you use the stock headunit (actually a very good signal source) and go to an outboard amp, and the turn on unit to turn on the amp for you because there is no remote out line on a stock headunit. Between the two units you can turn your car into a much better sounding system very simply.
