Opinion - Eclipse Speakers

I have a 2002 Protege ES sedan. Audio is the stock setup, with the exception of a 12" sub and amp.

I have been looking at replacement speakers and ran across a local shop that carries Eclipse speakers. The low end of their speaker line features drop in replacements with a 94db efficiency rating. This is a higher efficiency rating than other speakers I've been looking at.

Any opinions on this line of speakers? I've only been familiar with Eclipse head units - and they have an excellent reputation.

These sounded good at the store - but that doesn't tell much about how they would sound powered by the factory headunit.

Looks like nobody sells Eclipse speakers on-line.

Anybody have any experience with these, and out factory headunit?

I suspect the real answer is going to be the expensive one. Namely, get a set of components upfront, new 6x9s in the rear, and a 4 channel amp to power the whole setup.

I have a set of eclipse 6 1/2 coax's in my Tacoma pick up. They're powered by an eclipse headunit and the sound is incredible. Excellent bass response and clean highs. The secret with using Eclipse speakers is to not over power them. If you only plan on running them off of deck power, they will sound great. If you plan to amplify your speakers in the future, you may want to look into something else. Quality wise, Eclipse is excellent.

eclipse is made by fujitsu-ten, a company affiliated, not owned, by toyota. they make good mid to high end stuff stuff. there are a lot of companies out there that are getting by on the rep of their high end stuff (jl, kicker, alpine etc) but they also have entry level components that are not the greatest in the world. not saying it's bad, but i would stick to mid to high end stuff.

but yeah, eclipse is still a good company.

oh yeah, and everything sounds good in a store (hooked up right) as you are listening in optimum conditions (facing listener) try to listen to stuff in an actual application/enviroment for accurate reproduction of sound.
