i just installed some Infinity 692.5i speakers in the back of my car, i am still using the factory stereo but i will be installing an amp in a few months, my question is, how careful do i have to be with the radio volume, what i mean is i have heard people say if youboost the volume too much and distort the sound you can damage the speaker, now is this the case only when you are really cranking the volume or is this the case all the time?

Hey guys! Brand new to the PR5 family and to this forum. I have read most of the posts over the past couple days, but I have a quick question.

I am looking for the cheapest upgrade of the factory audio that I can get right now. I am first looking to replace my OEM spkrs with quality sound. Purchased a Pioneer 4-way 6x8 set for the fronts (TS-A6880R) last night from Crutchfield and a set of Infinity 6.5's (62.5i) from Zeb.

Wanted to know what you guys thought about that selection??

Also, do you recommend an amp right now or will the factory HU push these well enough to wait on an amp??

My first recommendation is NOT to go too cheap.

If the "bug" bites (which it usually does), you'll be ditching all the crap in no time, spending what you should have spent in the first place.

But - seeing as how you already bought the speakers (right?) - you are always better off with an amp. The stock stereo in the P5 is horribly weak. You may get a little more clarity with your new speakers, but overall it won't be too much of an improvement, because the same 8 watts is pushing each channel.

What is the RMS (not Max) power handling of the speakers? You can look for an amp that puts out the same RMS rating and have a nice clear, loud, budget system.

You can get a decent 4 channel amp for less than $200. BUT, if it sounds too good to be true (meaning 6,000 watts per channel for $25 ) it probably is. If you have trouble choosing an amp, ask here - you'll get lots of good advice.

Thanks for the response hihoslva. To answer your question, the RMS power for the Pioneer 6x8 fronts are: 2-50 Watts. For the Infinity 6.5 rears it is: 2-75 Watts. See links below for more details.

What do you guys think about the US Acoustics amp: USX4065 Amplifier - 65x4 @ 4ohm - 320 watts RMS total?
It is $122.99 at the Zeb website.

Or the Crunch Powerzone P4125 Amplifier - 125x4 @ 4ohm - 1000 watts Peak total for $119.99??

Are these in the ballpark??

hello Pr5 and ALT and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

even with the new speakers....you will certainly want an amp....I know I did....and YES I still have the stock head unit....as I have the 6 disc in dash changer and wanted to keep it. there are quite a few amps out there that will do the trick....just remember if you are planning on keeping the stock head unit you will either need an amp that has line level inputs...OR you will need to get line level converters.

Sorry for the confusion Sir Nuke. I registered at Work & at home my mistake. Will only use this username for no on.

I am in the same boat as you are. I have & like the stock head unit with the in-dash changer and don't want to lose it.

Will take your advice and add an amp now vs later. Will just have to beat my wife home from work before she sees all the new boxes of equipment UPS'd to me just 2 weeks after getting a new ride!!

While the price is good and the power is killer, it maybe over kill!
175 per in pretty high for cabin speakers- mind you I have been known to over amp a bit myself.
Really wattage output is most useful for base. Check the recommended wattages for the Infinity speakers you are getting and try to zero in in that range.
IMHO I tend to go for 50 to 100 watts max on voice and music content speakers, and focus on the Signal to Noise ratio and the Dynamic range of the amps; cleaner wide range sound compared to higher output that might shread them up anyway. To a degree I suppose it might depend upon the type of music you listen to, but overamping can lead to the the demise of the speakers.

Underseats is as fine as any place if it will fit. Do watch for water damage, the carpet will absorb and distribute water from feet, kids, etc. An interesting thought I have had is to use a smaller board with runner/feet to do the install, it will keep the amp off the carpet (just make sure to ground well) and still retain the use of the rear vents of the car that are in there now.
Hihoslva recently posted nice photos of is amp install on a board behind the seats that still allows good flexability in their use.

I am a big supporter of the use of the stock headunit, only reason to move to an aftermarket would be for features, or a inate desire to have something different. The stock unit is a fine signal source, and allows for a fine stealth install.
Just my thoughts.
