neons killed my stereo! need help!

OK, I followed the directions given by a few people to wire in some neons. When I put the wire in with the battery and tried to start everything, it didnt work. Not only that, but then my stereo wouldnt turn on! after checking all the fuses and everything, nothing was wrong. finally after giving up, taking it to car toys, and paying them to figure it out, all That had to be done was reset the HU. not really a big prob, but I cant figure out how to get it out on my own in case it happens again. ( I have a Pioneer premier p940 or somthing like that. If any one knows how.)
Then I asked the guy what I should do for the neons, and he sugested splising it with the ignition. Now my beef with that, is I dont know how to find the right wires, and if I screw that up, bye bye mr protege! Then he mentioned a "half assed way" top do it by just putting the wires in with any fuse that has constant power. I tried and couldnt get the neons to start up. So now im stuck. I dont want to go to the battery again and screw my stereo, but i dont know how else to do it.
Any that has had similar probs, or knows what I should do, please let me know!

it works

the half assed way does work. i have done it with my indiglo gauges. i hooked it up to the radio fuse i believe. or maybe it was the interior lightin fuse i dont remember, i believe it was the radio. it worked for me so maybe u just used the wrong fuse. id try all the fuses that u might be confused with (if u are confused, lol) or just use all the possible fuses u can use.

I did the "half-assed" way, and it works fine. *shrug* I put the wires in an open slot on the fuse board, and then ran a switch. so i can turn them on whenever I like (car running or not). Hasn't caused me any probs yet.

Just my 2 cents
