Mazdaspeed Kenwood sound system
I got some pics of the Kenwood 450w trunk-mounted amp and sub in the new Mazdaspeed. I don't know a ton about sound systems... Just figured I would post it here for those interested...
More pics of the black Mazdaspeed Protege at my 'work in progress' website... http://www.caliprotegemeet.1hwy.com

They didn't have it on at SevenStock (where the pics were taken). However, they did have it on briefly at the California International Auto Show last weekend in Anaheim. However, they couldn't turn it up because of regulations. The bass sounded nice and sharp... however, the car was chained off and the windows and doors were closed... so that was all you could hear!

The amp install looks kind of ghetto IMO
there's glue marks where the badge USED to be.
And that's some tiny power wire. Plus it is upside down...bet it don't take much to overheat that pup,
Beautiful car otherwise.

Just to let you know... this car is a prototype model and not a production model. I don't know if the actual production model will be better... there is no denying the value of the car though... you can't buy a new Protege ES and add the sound system, turbo, intercooler, limited-slip, body kit, suspension, wheels, exhaust, etc. for under $20,500.

Not only is the mounting design space-saving, it is also supposed to be structural.
According to what I've read, the sub/amp rack also ties the rear strut mounts together, acting as a rear strut-tower brace. I don't know if there is any metal in the sub rack for stiffness, but either that or one of carbon fiber would seem to work very well. If there is metal in there, sounds like it will work.
Either way, it's a great design, IMO. I just wonder how much weight it'll take when MSpeed owners start trying to mount JBLs and Brahmas up on that thing!
