Just did the 3 step system

Well, I just did the 3 step system today, using Meguiers Cleaner, Polish, and Gold Class wax. The cleaner went on pretty well, but I didnt notice much difference after I put it on. It didnt get much of the elements out, unless I pressed hard. After pressing hard in some areas, I would see yellow on the applicator! Mazda USA told me that I had a clearcoat on the yellow, but why would I see yellow on the applicator?? After seeing this happen, I didnt rub to hard when applying the rest of the products. I had some yellow on the towels that I took the products off with in the end, but not much. I will be calling Mazda USA this week to complain and get to the bottom of the clearcoat thing. My car looks better then before, but its not "WOW!" its just "NICE". It rained later on during the day for about 15 minutes, and the water beaded perfectlly. Well, if has any comments about my experience, feel free to talk.

mnkyboy, yeah mazda told me the same thing. but the trim is the part where the yellow comes off. as far as the painted metal area, it's all good.

i just spent 3 hours outside doin' my car. washed it, polished/glazed it, then the wax. damn, it took awhile, but it is soooooo sweet!

but i think the trim doesn't have the clear-coat. bastards.

If your car is fairly new, I doubt you'd see much of a difference with the pre-wax cleaner. Depending on how trashed your paint is, the pre-wax cleaner may or may not do a whole lot for you. But it's still good to get rid of crap that you can't see anyway.
Also, I 'm not too sure why you're seeing yellow. If it's as 1Hawaiian says, then I guess you're SOL on parts like the trim.

I think part of the problem with your results not being so fantastic is because of the car being yellow. IMO, yellow reminds me kind of white or silver paint in that you can't really tell a freshly washed one from a freshly washed AND waxed one. This is just IMHO only....not scientific fact!!!

Darker colours on the other hand greatly benefits from waxing and you can really tell the difference between a waxed and a non-waxed car. Again...IMHO!

I'm not sure of your methods either. I wasn't there, so I can't comment on whether you did something wrong or not. I doubt you did though, as waxing isn't exactly rocket science (but there is definitely a science to it!!).

And just in case this hasn't been said yet, be sure to use either 100% cotton towels OR Microfiber towels. The microfiber towels (MF) are the newest hype with the auto detailers and they all advise on using those new over cotton.

Onehawaian, What do you mean just the trim? Are you talking about the trim on the doors (middle recessed pieces)? I saw yellow on my applicator when I was doing the hood. Any ideas why? Im calling Mazda USA this week

On a good note, the wax job looks 200% better today than yesturday! It looks like is silky smooth and wet. I guess it takes a day to come out

I think i know why it looks better to you the day after - you were prolly so pissed that paint was coming off on the applicator that you were in the wrong mindset to appreciate how great the vehicle looked when you were finished...

Let us know what Mazda tells you when u call!

The ONLY reason I can think that the paint would come off on your hood is that there is NO clearcoat.

Has anybody else with a yellow P5 experienced what Mnky has???

Mnkyboy: Glad to hear your wax job looked better

as long as it's metal, i didn't have a problem. but the side skirts (sounds gay), mirrors, and front gave me paint back on my towel/applicator. everything else seemed fine.

maybe i'll go to the shop and find out for myself.

mazda told me ALL the p5 colors have clear-coat, including the yellow. but i am finding that a little hard to believe after yesterday.

Hi,

I just bought a Pro5 and wanted to know if we have a clear-coat finish on these cars.

I am going to buy Zaino polish and I do not know what to buy.

Should I wait to polish a new Pro5 or should I polish it right away?

Thanks,

You should really put a clearcoat sealant on before waxing. But definately give it a nice wax as soon as possible. This will give it more protection then just the clearcoat when you first get your car.

Wait 3 months to make sure paint has been cured...use the meguiar 3 step or Zaino. They pretty much have the stuff mixed in already.

Also please read the thread in its entirety...pretty much explains what you need to do.

the dealer told me they detailed the car prior to giving it to me...does this mean they cleaned, waxed/glazed/polished and buffed the paint???????/

Thanks,
Eric...

call them up and ask them...everyone has a different definition of "detailing."

But wait 3 months to make sure that your paint is cured then do the 3 step.
