Hi everyone. I rememeber reading here a few months ago about Maguires 3 step process or something like that. I searched the forums here and the web, but to no avail, and Maguires doesn't have a website that I can find.

My car's paint is starting to have some serious oxidation problems. It was not taken care of very well before I bought it in 97, and even though I take great care of her, I think the early effects are starting to show. She is starting to get splochy looking patterns on her trunk and hood especially.

So my question is, is the Maguires 3 step process good or do you all have any other suggestions to remove the oxidation and old wax and then a new coat to make her shine?

Any and all suggestions will be appreciated! Thanks!

Like many other people here I use Zaino Brothers products, they are reputed to be the absolute best, although my experience is limited they do make a high quality product.

the meguires three step process will get you where you want to be...if after that you want to switch or try other high quality waxes...that is fine....

I highly recommend meguires though....its good stuff....as well as the Zaino....as far as a wax....either way...you can't go wrong.

I left it sitting on my computer at work and i'm at home right now, but if anyone's interested, I edited the thread into a Microsoft Word Document that contains just the instructions and recommended products rather than the conversation style the thread took.

I recently just used the Mother's "Ultimate" 3-step wax system. It was easy to apply and remove all 3 steps and the shine was really great.

From what I've read, carnauba wax gives a much better reflection on black cars than a synthetic will. I can somewhat attest to this as I used Nu-finish just before this last winter and the shine was nowhere near as good as I have on my Pro now.

I think the Meguiar's and Mother's products are both really good products. Price-wise, the Mother's stuff was a few bucks cheaper at CanTire.

I'm not into buying stuff over the internet, so synthetics like Klasse and Zaino (both of which are supposed to be incredible) are out for me.

If you want to remove the old wax first, use the dish soap "Dawn". It will strip off old wax and grime with ease. Just be sure to not do this too often as Dawn is highly alkaline and may cause clearcloat damage if used too frequently.

The step 1 in the Meguiar's/Mother's system will help get rid of old oxidation. This step is the pre-wax cleaner stage.

Be sure to use only 100% cotton or Microfiber cloths on your car for waxing. For washing I personally use a lambs wool mitt, but microfiber or cotton would work as well.

He he he... I did the Meguiar's 3-step about a month ago and it was great. Even though my car is only about 3.5 months old (7000 miles), I noticed a difference after the 3 step. Also, my car just doesn't seem to get as dirty as it did before.

Of course, I'm sure everyone has heard the affect of good polish and wax before. The only negative thing about my experience was that there really aren't very good instructions on the back of the bottle... as a matter of fact, all three products paint cleaner, polish, and wax had the exact same instructions. I'm just not so sure.

So, I guess, if you want to did up that word document, then have one of the moderators around here attach it as a link in the FAQ section, that would be really hot.

Excellent, excellent replies everyone. Thanks alot. I checked out Maguiar's website last night after I finally learned how to spell it right..sheesh....and they have a little chart for each step with the products you can use for each step. Very nice layout.

Sandman, that Word document would be a big help. If you can post a link to it somewhere or something like that, or email it too me, I'd really appreciate it.

well...... you can't buy ZAINO over the internet. you have to order it by mail or call one of his dealers. from what i've read, zaino's shine and durability FAR exceed caranuba wax!

and i wish i was'nt into buying stuff over the internet. i'd have far less $ to pay on my credit card and far more $$ in my bank account!!

What you should do to keep your paint in tip top condition is to do a high speed buff by a pro then go over it w/ a nice polish. Last but not least try clay baring it once in a while too remove abrasives. I'm not talking out of my a$$, i am a detailer.

I recently bought a Simoniz (sp??) 10" buffer on sale for $50 CDN, and got some mothers products. My red paint was faded bad on some parts, almost to the point of being pink, now its a great glossy red!

I havent used any other products so I don't really know how mothers compares, but It impressed me...

the Wal-Mart in my town even carries it....check it out...now they dont' carry ALL their products...but they do carry their waxes.

hmmmm..... interesting......... but i've never seen zaino at WALLY WORLD..... at least at the ones around me. you're talking about zaino, not zymol, right?

yeah...its wierd....our wally world gets stuff like this once in a while.....of course right when you want it....you will find that they got only like ONE case and now its all gone...and they did a ONE TIME purchase of the stuff...and don't NORMALLY carry it....this is the case here too I am sure.
