Question Line out/speaker out question

I have decided to utilize my stock 6 disc deck and to run my smallish 50x2 amp off of the stock HU to power a small sub.
How do I connect my stock head unit to the AMP that only takes RCA inputs?
I guess I need to use a speaker to line level adapter but can I just tap into the speaker wire for the rear speakers or do I have to detach the rear speaker wire to feed the amp and then loose my rear fill?
Thanks in advance,
Evan

Tapping into the rear speaker wires will be fine, but be careful since the wires are so thin.

one more ?

Do you have to tap into both sides or will one set of positive and neg. leads be enough to utilize the line/speaker converter?
Will it be unbalanced?
Will the amp place a draw on these lines that could blow the stock head unit?

If you are using a 2 channel amp to run a sub, I am assuming that you will bridge the channels to run the sub. You will want left and right inputs (so draw the signal from both speakers). Putting line output converters on the speaker leads and running them into the amplifier inputs shouldn't have any undesirable effects as the input impedance of the amplifier is very high compared to the speakers that are also connected, and as a result will a) not affect the impedance of the speakers as seen by the deck, and b) will draw very little additional current.

Just make sure that your amplifier can be bridged (check the owner's manual) before you do so.

If BlueLEDz or 1st MP3 in NH happens by, they are good resources for installation questions
