LED wiring

I don't know what I'm doin wrong... I'm gonna take a double cable and connect a whole lotta LEDs to it. Between each LED I'm gonna put a 470ohm resistor. I'm having trouble cause at one point the LED's worked and now they don't. I know that the anode of the LED is the one with the longest wire or (looking at the cristal) the narrowest foot inside. I then test by connecting the double cable directly to the battery one to positive and other to negative and nothing. Am I doing anything wrong?

Can I connect the LED's without the 470ohm resistor? I did some KVL (Kirchov's Voltage Law) and I don't think I can eliminate the resistor.

PS the LED works at 3.3V with 20mA

What would be the easiest way to mount these LEDs to illuminate under the dash?

The longer lead on the LED is + postive. I soldered a 560 ohm 1/2 watt resistor to the positive side, no problems yet.
