MP5Maddness, where in Texas are you...I am near houston, when I got my P-5 there were two at the dealer that they took to a shop and had done....they too were asking an extra $1500 on those cars...I talked to the owner and he told me that there were two different places in houston that they took them...and it only cost them $900...that was for the seats...and the labor to have them installed...not bad really...they were top quality...looked killer...they were black and had insets the same color as the car...and "Protege 5" embroidered in the back as well. They were sweet. if you live anywhere near houston....give Gillman Mazda a call and talk to Don Gay Jr, he is the owner....and he will certainly tell you the name of the shop they have do their work.

I have been in touch with Katskin concerning these seats. Their price is $679 plus shipping, and they said that installation on the P5 is a snap and is an easy DIY project. They've even got an installation kit (hog rings, and hog pliers/cutter) for another $30. Awesome, I think. Price is for all four seats, plus leather inserts to replace the cloth door drim.

The only issue is that they say they cannot embroider logos for consumers - the true "Protege5" emblem (which is a Ford registered logo, from what I've heard) can only be embroidered for dealers, because they have rights to it. Don't know the exact legalities of it, but they probably could do a different emblem or custom embroidery - and the website says it's free.

I was blown away by that price - $700 for high quality leather seats is a steal, especially with the good looks of these. I'm looking forward to paying down my credit card a bit and ordering 'em up.

BTW - I used their online inquiry form, and a rep called me at home the same day. Very good customer servie, IMO. And they also have seat heaters - $99 each when you buy a seat set, $129 each otherwise. Again, not bad.

I'd say go with the Katskins

them telling you they can't do logos is bogus....just think about all the shops out there where you can go and get a ball cap or anything else sewn up with anything they have in their cataloge. unless its some specific state law or something.....for as long as you are not using their logo to sell or promote a product that isn't actually theirs....there isn't a problem with it.

Whatever - logos or not, they are really nice seats at a really nice price.

According to the dude I spoke to, they recieved complaints from Ford concerning them putting logos on the seats, and now they only do it for car dealers - supposedly. Probably the car company(s) don't want people assuming that these are OEM products, or even endorsed by the company.

As far as the shops doing embroidery of anything on caps, etc., - local, little shops can do anything they want - they basically operate underneath the radar. But a larger company shipping products all over has got to heed warnings sent their way, I guess. Just cuz the smaller places do it, doesn't make it legal or licensed.

Bogus or not, they seem like a really good company.
