Keyless starting... Thinking of some extensive rewiring

Well, I have this crazy idea. I've been thinking of putting a push button starter in. Then I figured, why stop there. So here's what I'm in thinking. I want to put in a relay and switch that will turn on the 12v system, having the same effect as turning the key to on. Then, to start the car, press the S2000 start button (another relay and button). Then, to add some degree of security, hide a kill switch somewhere like under the shift boot or something.

I understand the security risks. Other than that, do you all think this type of mod would be possible?

Is it possible? Sure I don't see why not. It will take some work on your part, but it can most likely be done. Would I do it, NO. I guess the safety risk is to high for a everyday driver. Good-Luck.

well, I got all the wiring done! It involved one push button starter, two rocker switches, three relays, dozens of connectors, and about 15 feet of 12 gauge wire. It works great! However, I still have one more hurdle to overcome: the steering wheel lock. For now, I still have to put the key in to release the steering wheel. I will be working on that tomorrow, to try to release it.

UPDATE: Well, I got it working!!! I had to remove the ignition assembly where the key goes in so that the steering wheel wouldn't be locked. I know you all probably think this is crazy, but man it's fun to start this thing. You get in, keys in your pocket, flip two switches and press the red starter button and zoom zoom baby!

Cool. Did you end up hiding the kill switch under the shift boot?

Yes, I have a kill switch installed too. IMO, the chances of the car being stolen are no greater than they were when I had a keyed ignition system.

As for a wiring diagram, I'll have to work on that later.

I would agree, if anything, your excess wiring would probably confuse any small time would be thief. Thieves thrive on everything being the same. Some of the research I have done suggests a home built alarm will often be more effective than a store bought, cause thieves can buy the same system and learn how to get around it.
Cheers dude, way to be different.

Well, images don't tell much of the story, as the real fun part was the wiring, but here's a picture of the two rocker switches and the push-button starter.

The other pic is from where my key used to go for the ignition! BTW, I plan to make that look nicer with a formed and painted piece of plastic. The black tape was just to fill the hole for now.

P.S. I will try to put some instructions together, but they will be quite lengthy, so I will need a little time to put them together.

Cool....

I know you understand the risks... but maybe you should leave the regular ignition in the column (not plugged in I mean) so it looks more normal, so a stupid thief might waste their time with that, hehe. They might not realize what the big red button is
