Question JL Audio W3s or EDesigns K series subs?

I went to the local shop I used to work at and looks like the SoundStream subs are trashed. Maybe I can use them as paper weights!! <Whewhoo> When using liquid nails, the subs still sound like crap do to the voice coil rubbing every time the bass hits. I was shown the W0's (nice) and then the W3's (even nicer). The W3's are around $400 a pair and are comparable to the SPL12 SoundStreams that I have (had). I hear good things about the EDesigns too though. Price way, the EDesigns are the ****, but sound wise what should I go with? BlueLedz, You seem to been exposed to different brands of subs, what do you suggest (the same as before)? It will be a couple of weeks until I get them. I have a 1.25 cubic inch box which the eDesigns recommend a 1.00 cubic inch one. I downloaded a box they recommend and can always build it (plus it would take up less space and match black interior). Ideas, more ideas! I like the eDesign's "A" sub, but too pricey!

what exactly does a 6th order bandpass box look like any way? I know what you mean about JL. They have good ****, but because of the popularity and all the patents, you pay a hefty price. I would have to step up to the W3 do to the size amp I have (if I went with that brand). I thought EDesigns only had "A" and "K" series subs only. Lastly, you think I should go with just one sub? I could get the one you mentioned at the higher price and do away with two subs idea. What kind of ports did you use, or did you do away with them and use the slot loaded method? I hear the slot loaded is better do to port noise and ect. I only had a simple bandpass box once, and it didn't do justice to the subs, but at the same time, it was a prefab one and probably didn't get the most out of the subs. A killer pair of subs can sound subpar with the wrong sized dimensions on a box. Thanks!

^^^ the k-series will beat out the w3's in both sq and spl. and the new k's have a flat cone. no doubt, they are by far one of, if not the best, sub in it's class. hard to beat the price, and the quality and customer service is just simply awesome.

oh, and by the time most ppl read this, it'll be june. and ed should be shipping both k-'s and o's, along with the 10 and 15 a's...

I always stuck with sealed for overall good linear response. The bandpass I had was a simple sealed in the front and ports in the rear with plexiglass to show off the front (which were both at an angle. Number one, the box wasn't built for the subs I had, so it didn't sound too good and number two, because of the steep slope, you could only hear certain frequencies. It sounds like with the 6th order bp, you have each side tuned to prevent hearing just one small frequency response. I may just keep the box I have, take out the amp rack, and mount the amps on the box (as well as stiffening cap and distribution block). When I originally made the amp rack, it was to be flat against the back seat, but my dimensions were off so that it had to be mounted at a slant \ <--like that, but it looks pretty cool except that it causes the sub box to only go but so far against the rear seat (taking away real estate in the trunk). Are the "O"s more or less than the "K" series? Like you said, too bad you can't show them off (like their magnets). I mean you can, but then you are talking more money with plexiglass. I just want something to sound great. Nothing for show (no neon no plexiglass, mirrors, and all that other cool looking stuff, just adds up to be too expensive).

Thanks!

I noticed on their website, that their K series is recommended to be placed in a 1.0 cubic inch box and the box i have is too big at 1.25 cubic inches. The O series is rated around or up to 1.2 cubic inches I believe which would be close considering the magnet size taking some of the cubic inches inside the box. I would get the K series if they aren't that big of difference in sound and would work in my box, but I would spend the extra money for the 0 series if it would work better with the box I have and sound enough better to make up for the extra dinero sunk in to it. Have you heard both or just the K series? I am stuck between the two series as far as getting them.

Lastly, with JL Audio, they offer a 90 day warranty if you go to a JL Audio dealership and buy it to take home. If you have them (the dealership inspect the box, the warranty goes up), and if the dealership physically installs the subs in a box (whether you get the box from them or on your own) they will provide you with a year warranty. Kind of steep, but I guess they want to make sure you know what you are doing before putting one of their subs in your car. Can you imagine though, paying someone to mount the subs in your car when you already have a box for it?! Alpine is picky too about things. When they first sold through Circuit City, the store's installers had to be the ones to install their products. I guess all that changed since crutchfield and sounddomain to name a couple started selling Alpine.
