Piece of ****. Ditch the walmart brand and get something better. Trust me, you will just want to upgrade the sub later so why waste the money now?

Jensen basically makes flea-market, WLS equipment. WLS stands for "When Lightning Strikes". That means, the only time you get the power they claim is under those conditions.

A 400 watt Jensen amp will probably only put out that power when driven to extremes, and just before it burns up. And a 500 watt sub - same thing. It'll probably take 500 watts for about 2 seconds - then *poof*.

Higher quality brands will do more than they say. For example, a JBL 1200.1 is rated to put out 1200 watts, but they usually can do almost 1400. This means you GET 1200 CLEAN and USEABLE watts, while the amp stays safe. Same with a sub - don't ever buy a sub based upon it's MAX power handling - RMS is what you need to look at to determine how much power a sub will take day in and day out and last a good long time.

Well its not my choice but since Audio bias isn't exactly helpful (I think JBL blows monkey *** almost as bad as Jensen) I'll leave bias out of this.

First the sub is rated for 175 watts rms, 525 watts peka. Peake values are absolutely useless and should be ignored. Get a decent amp that will give you between 150-200 watts rms to a 4 ohm load. this means your looking for a 2 channel amp that will be bridged. The Kenwood KAC-629S should prove capable of the task. If you want to stay with Jensen for the amp also then the JXp460 will be adaquite

Bandpass boxes such as the Jensen have only volume in mind. If you after something cheap and loud then look no further. Bandpass boxes have a major advatage of being louder due to there design but they for go alot of tonal accuracy and they can only play a very narrow frequency range. Typicaly you'll get about 55 hz-110 hz from a box like this. How much of that range depends on the box.

i disagree with some of you, the newer Jensen products aren't that bad, you can't lie on RMS specs and THD ratings. i have a Jensen Amp (X2250) says 500 watts but on a 2 ohm load its 175W RMS @ <0.1% THD x 2ch which means 350W RMS total output thats not bad for only paying 100 bux CAD and it hasn't died yet, i can turn my deck to full vol and my speakers don't distort

Actualy you can lye on specs thats the proble. There is no sanctioning organization that sets how specs must be derived. The manufactures are allowed to pull every dirty trick in the book to obtain the specs.

The best meathod to show this is to compare your jensen amp to say the JL 250/1 amplifier. Testing shows that amp around 300 watts rms. I gaurentee that amp will destry you 340 watt amp in every catagory but as you pointed out you have to pay for it.

One of the golden Rules I am discovering when it comes to audio is that the best product for any person is the product they like. It doesn't matter if its a POS or not or how much it cost or how clean it is it just matters that the owner likes it.

For you, yu like Jensen so its the right product for you. I do not like Jensen ( i am being very nice here) So its not the product for me.
